BallerDuke14 said on his list he’d rank Duke and Stanford at the top. Why bash on someone for his own opinions? If I said my 2 favorite foods were pizza and steak, would it make sense to try to prove me wrong by pulling out a national survey saying hot dogs and hamburgers were the most favored foods?

The “My Chances” website used only one year’s worth of self-reported data, which is highly unreliable. The Revealed Preference ranking is a better indicator of student choices of undergraduate institutions:

You’re obviously not a historian.

What “personal experience” do you have with Stanford? If anything, you once explicitly stated that Stanford has the advantage over Duke:

It seems to me that you’re purposely misleading the OP due to self-interest. Is lying for personal gain representative of the Duke student body?

Hey, if he said, ‘Duke is my favorite school’ fine, but he said he ranks Duke and Stanford 1 & 2 and then tried to back his reasoning. I think even the most ardent Blue Devil would agree that’s a little ludicrous.

Objobs, get off your high horse. I said that BEFORE going to college. If you went through college like you seem to claim, you’d understand that impressions change and that going to one top 10 school over another IS NOT going to make any significant difference.

@danstearns Yeah, he said he ranked Stanford and Duke at the top of his list. That’s equivalent to saying they were his favorite schools.

No. I will stay on it until you stop lying. You know, for a rising sophomore who is pre-med and seems to hang out on CC 24/7, you have a lot of “friends” for every conceivable occasion which helps portray Duke in a positive light for prospective students and their parents. I am calling shenanigans:

I never claimed this. I’ve stated more than once that I haven’t even started college yet; so I don’t know what the heck you’re talking about.

Haha to be honest objobs, that’s really kinda creepy that you had to quote all of that and it makes it seem as if YOU’re on CC 24/7 not eatsalot. And with my “top 2 rankings” I stressed that it was “personal, just like everyone has their own personal lists for college” and it was just my opinion.

But back to the OP, right now it may not seem like there are many differences between the two schools and it will be tough to decide if you had to decide today. However, once you get admitted to both, I’m sure you’ll be able to make a decision (especially after having done your research through either visits, information sessions, websites, etc.) that will be motivated by major factors such as affordability (FA/scholarships), what you plan to study, travel costs (stanford and duke are on the opposite sides of the country), job/internship/research opportunities etc. Trust me, unlike some of the other posts above may lead you to believe, the determining factor on which college you end up choosing will NOT be based on any rankings. It will be based on solely your PERSONAL views of both schools.

Not really. It took me about ten minutes. I do admit, however, that I spend much more time on CC than I should. Hopefully, I’ll stop when school rolls around.

objobs, what are you trying to prove? I don’t understand what you are trying to accomplish.

I refuse to get heavily involved in this ludicrous “debate” (lol), but to be fair, objobs, I go to Duke and have met eatsalot, personally. He’s a cool guy. I’m sure that he, like me, really does have a large circle of friends, including many international students and Americans who turned down plenty of prestigious schools for Duke. Chillax, bro.

Man, some of you Duke haters are too much. I’m a Tar Heel, and am supposed to hate Duke (I pretty much do). I think Duke’s sports programs are vastly overhyped, and I think Coach K is a rat.

That said, I respect Duke as well. It is a great academic institution, fully deserving of its top 10 ranking. All of this nit-picking between Duke and (insert random elite school here) is ridiculous. Duke is excellent-you certainly aren’t going to be a bum with a degree from Duke.

Awwwwwwwwwwwww, look at Cuse trying to suck it up and kinda-sorta compliment us ;)

haha thanks, man.

P.S. Not exactly sure how you can call the National freaking Champions (in lacrosse, too!) “overhyped” lololol. “Overhyped” would be starting the season ranked in the top 10, then proceeding to get completely annihilated all year coughCarolinacough
ready to stand in awe of our preseason #1 ranking? hehe

I do what I can. :)

Not referring to the past season, but Duke tends to be overhyped in general. Prior to last year, y’all had plenty of early exits in the NCAAT but the hype never died. You deserve the hype this year though.

Leave it to a Dukie to completely overlook football season. I’m more excited about another bowl trip by the 'Heels. :p

I’m going to Duke next year. I’d definitely choose Stanford over Duke. HAHA, I mean… it’s Stanford. I’d just hate to be a part of the hypercompetitive student body, but everything else about Stanford just screams perfection.

One difference between the two is the calendar at each school. Stanford is on the quarter calendar, which allows students to take more classes, but that comes with more midterms and finals. Stanford also tends to start later and end later than colleges on the semester system. Duke is on the semester calendar.
