Anyone have statistics/article?

Anyone have some sort of information on what the national median scores are for SAT's and what percentage of all the people get 2400.

Just curious.

i'm sure the precise number is on princeton review, or maybe wikipedia even, but i heard that a 1500 (aprx.) is the median score.

Well, for college-bound seniors in 2006...the averages were...

CR - 503
M - 518
W - 497

So, that's right around 1510 ~ 1520.

Check out this chart. In 2006, 1,376,745 people took the SAT I and 238 got 2400.

Thanks for the info and chart. So if only 238 people got a 2400, then how come everybody talks like anyone applying to Harvard is directly competing with 4.0 2400 score people. Thank God thats not true, I was beginning to think 2400 wasn't that rare anymore and I was an outcast.lol

by competing with 4.0 2400 ppl they really meant anyone with above 3.85 (UW) and 2300 SAT lol

Yes, thank you for posting the link to the scores. My S and I were awaiting his results from the June 2 test to be posted yesterday. While we knew that his scores were good (over 2300), we didn't know HOW good.

He'll be a senior in the fall but no need for him to re-take the SAT's!

DVU care to share what your son got? it's not nice to taunt us like that and never say.
ummm, seekinghelp, i had sort of a different reaction than yours. mine was more like @#$@$ How does 238 people get perfects! I didn't think it was that many. I though it was more like 30 or somethin' I'm depressed.
oh, just so i'm not a hypocrite to DVU, I got 2330

Sorry - I wasn't trying to taunt... He scored a 2320 (800 CR, 780 M, 740 W) After reading the scores and seeing that anything above a 2280 was 99+ percentile, I guess I came to the conclusion that being one of the top 3000 to 3500 students in the nation out of 1.4 million (assuming that this year's Junior's scores are similar to last year's) on the SAT is darn impressive. He is not interested in trying for an Ivy League but wants to attend one of the top 10 Computer Science/Engineering schools with University of Washington as his first choice (we live just across the lake from it). He more than meets the UW minimum entrance requirements this year although a direct admit into their CSE program would be his best scenario. Getting into that program is much more difficult and the competition fierce.

So unless someone out there thinks he should take it again next year in pursuit of the elusive 2400 (he didn't study for the SAT at all this time but had taken it in 8th and 9th grade for the experience), he's good with his scores.

It is intended to be centered at 1500 +- on each section but it is usually 500 +-20 points on each section.
