Recently received my acceptance to the Honors College and I didn't fail to notice their helpful P.S. about 100% of last year's class earning scholarships. Has anyone heard about general university scholarships yet? How about departmental?

I think it might be a few weeks before you hear about the merit scholarships.Iin some departments you may have to apply separately for their scholarships but you should receive a letter from the dept (once you have sent in an enrollment deposit) inviting you to apply,or awarding you something.Be aware:USC is known for saving those departmental awards to students who actually enroll.

Hopefully they will notify the McKissick scholarship winners soon. We are anxious … my D is going to be close

waiting not so patiently here - honors letter says scholarship notification BY March, think somewhere else it said early March… this determines whether we need to book flights/hotel for Scholars day in April. - crossing fingers for all of us!

Does anyone know when Scholar’s Day is? I emailed and didn’t get an answer. thanks

If I have the National Merit Finalist scholarship, do other scholarships stack on top of that?

yes easmesmom, I called last week about it, it is Sat., April 10. There’s also an Honors Drop-In on Friday from 3:30-5:30, if that applied to you. RSVP for that is online at [USC Undergraduate Admissions](http://64.78.2.248/)

AL34, thank you for the link…I thought I had very thoroughly explored the website and I could not find this link. My D was accepted to Honors back in December. We have even paid the enrollment deposit, but have received very little communication. Other schools to which she has been accepted have been sending, calling, emailing, inviting, etc. Very clear information. Any other parents have experiences to share?

I failed to mention that she got the “not a finalist” McNair letter. That is a communication. It said she was still being considered for other scholarships, and that is why we hurry to check the mailbox. Every day.

My S was also accepted into the Honors College in December and received the same “not a finalist” letter. He did get a call a couple of nights ago from an Honors College student who called just to chat/answer questions. We are also anxiously awaiting scholarship news!

I was wondering the same about the scholarships. I checked threads from last year and 2008. Last year general scholarships ( other tha McNair/Carolina ) were sent out starting on it looks like Feb. 27th. Some people received it on the 28th. In 2008 some people reported receiving it on Friday, March 7th ,must have been mailed out the beginning of the week. If that holds true for this year they would be mailed out maybe tomorrow, or the beginning of next week. It looks like the Capstone letters went out more towards the middle of March last year. For regular decision ( Dec. 1st ) applicants who have not heard back yet, I believe both would be included at the same time, middle of March.

DS has had the same communications as you all. First general admit letter, then Honors letter, email saying excited to soon be able to notify about scholarships, letter saying sorry no McNair, Valentines email, then Honors student phone call. We are OOS and have not paid enrollment or housing deposit yet. Have not visited yet either.

Am obsessively checking the mailbox, need to hear about merit $ before we try and book Scholars Day! Not a cheap trip so we need to be sure of the $ before we go.

What is Scholar’s Day? Is that the same as the one day event where you can visit and learn about the Honors College?

As I understand it, it is invite-only for those who receive scholarships, not just Honors college kids. I only know because I called to ask about Honors visit opportunities coming up.

Well, then hopefully they will be contacting people soon to let them know about scholarships so there is time to plan a trip and get decent airfare prices! Is there any info. on the USC website about Scholar’s Day? I haven’t been able to locate anything.

SC holds a “Scholars day” event on a Saturday in early April (apparently April 10 this year) to which they invite everyone that has been offered some type of merit award in for a full day of scheduled events that includes mock classes, visits with representatives from all the departments/colleges, a “mini fair” that illustrates many of the campus organizations, campus tours etc. In the past it also included a meeting for all who were named Capstone Scholars to meet with Capstone administrators and learn more about the program.

We flew in on Friday afternoon and actually stayed until Monday evening because we had prearranged with the Visitor’s center to have her attend several real classes on Monday. This also enabled us to see the campus with normal daily activity. Our previous visit had been in the summer and things were pretty quiet and we anticipated (correctly) that the campus would also be pretty quiet on that Saturday. This really helped her to make her decision. They are very accommodating to this type of requests.
