Anyone heard from Cal Poly Pomona yet?

I just checked BroncDirect

@great786 …do you still have to turn in final transcripts or are you done with classes?

any updates today peeps?

I’m a transfer and i havent heard anything from them since the day i applied… my status is still on application received

just out of curiosity do you guys live near pomona? i heard you have to dorm for the first year

For those who haven’t found out yet if you’re accepted, I don’t know how you’ll be able to get a dorm slot because they sent me an email saying they’re all full, so they told me to sign up for the suites instead. Today I got an email saying the suites are full also, so I’m on the waiting list now.

If they run out of dorms, can’t we rent apartments?

aw screw me…need to dorm…

I rly doubt they run out of dorms. The dorms r primarily for freshmen. R u a transfer?

Sent from my Desire HD using CC

I’m sure CPP has some kind of contingency plan for housing. If all else comes to worse, they’ll allow the rest of us to rent apartments… And still accept applicants.

Hey, I am transferring in pure mathematics with a 2.7. I got provisional admit. You think I’m in?

@ryuriar21: Yes as long as you complete everything you need by the end of this spring semester.

@ryuriar21
Were you wait listed and then admitted? or just straight up admitted?

I’m already a freshman, next year I’ll be a sophomore.

Dorms primarily for incoming freshmen

So, I’m going to assume my friend is not going to get in by next week with a 2.7 for Mechanical Engineering. Seems like everyone who posts on here has already been accepted or wait-listed. He didn’t get any wait-list e-mail.

yo just a general question, is it better to go straight to a four year university like Pomona or transfer first from a cc?
I heard cons for both sides. for the cc due to economy its hard to transfer after 2 years. And for the four year plan, I asked my cousin who already goes to pomona. he said his classmates that had transferred got to keep their GPA from the CC (relatively easy to raise compared to the first 2 years of uni)

thanks

Depends what you want to do!

Three years ago when I started I would’ve said go to CC. You have a “second chance” at top UC’s by going to a CC. But the economy was just starting to go bad I guess and it was still 26 a unit, instead of 46 now.

If the “college experience” is important to you, this won’t come from a CC. Most of my friends and I have developed a different perspective on college education by spending it at a CC first. I guess we see it more as a career stepping stone and don’t care all that much about the social aspect of it.

I’d say if you’re going to do a technical major, go to 4 year straight. Going to a CC will allow you to decide what you want to do with your life before you make a commitment to a major, but if you truly know what you want to do, go the 4 year route. A course taken at UC Berkeley for Calc III is much harder than a course taken at my CC that is counted as equivalent but still…there’s going to be that “gap” when you transfer that you’re going to have to overcome. It is extremely hard for a lot of people to get classes as first-time freshmen at CC’s. Usually if you join some type of honors program at your CC you can offset this.

I wouldn’t say it would give you good major preparation, but I would say that it is a cheap way to get those classes out of the way you will never need again or that are relevant for your major. I am in no way going to use any leftover knowledge from my history course, music course, art course, etc. Better that I paid 26 a unit for the entire class than hundreds for it elsewhere.

Honestly, I wish I could’ve started at a 4 year to begin with. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t have found the love of my life, lol. Education-wise, there are trade-offs.

Caldud: Thanks for the response. Yeah, my major is ChemE and your comparison of the class difficulties is definitely true. That’s probably the major reason I want to go to CPP straight . I checked the classes in the honors program for the cc and it was mostly humanities with only 1 math(statistics), no chem/physics.

How can you compare Berkley with a CC…?

CC transfers are more likely to graduate, then those who start at a four year college. This does not mean the classes at CC are easier, but this shows that CC classes are very effective in preparing their students. So, a lot of upper tier UCs like to take in transfer students that do well at their CC. Berkley, however, is just tough to get into period.

CSUs and CCs are both taking hits in their budget, therefore both directions are difficult in obtaining classes.
