I submitted my application before the Dec deadline and I have been accepted into UT and the Engineering Honors Program. I still haven't received anything regarding scholarships from the school. Do I have to accept their offer before I hear anything? I am a National Merit Finalist so I know I am going to get at least a little bit of money.

EDIT: I never bothered doing FAFSA because I am not a citizen or a permanent resident and I doubt I would get financial aid if I was. Could this have anything to do with the delay?

Hmm I also applied to the school of engineering and I have yet to hear about UT-scholarships....However, I have already received a scholarship from the school of engineering itself

The UT website says they'll notify about scholarships starting in mid-april, so I think you're fine.

As for FAFSA, I'm pretty sure UT-scholarships are merit-based and are a separate deal from financial aid...when I applied for scholarships on the applytexas website, they didn't ask me to submit any financial aid forms.

Yes I was a finalist for a scholarship which uses the scholarship application, but I am an alternate.

I have not heard back on any guaranteed money from the scholarship though.

Some scholarship awards have already been given, others will be given through April. Then after some of the winners choose other schools, they will reaward scholarships in May and some may be given out late into June.

My daughter was a finalist for the Dedman, which used the scholarship application. She was notified this past Wednesday that she did not receive it.
Thankfully, she had already received her acceptance from Princeton with a full ride grant and will be attending there.

Lone Ranger- I hope you get either the Dedman or the Texas Exes- your commitment to UT is compelling and I hope they realized that. You will not only be a stellar student there but one heck of an alumnus when you get out.

P.S. My daughter thought the interview was strange and was not impressed by it. She was there for Liberal Arts Honors, since UT did not accept her to Plan II Honors.

I haven't heard anything regarding scholarships - nothing from the engineering department or the school either. Do they just not inform you if you don't get anything?

Dedman actually does not use the scholarship app, some kids were there who didn't fill out the regular app. Anyone who applied to P2 or LAH was considered.

I hope so too! It's good to hear your daughter has such a good option. I'm certain I met her last weekend, and everyone I met was just great, it was a tremendous experience. The Dedman interview was very strange, it was quite informal. And one comment I made ended up becoming the entire interview, and it could have gone differently had you said just one other word or not brought something up at all.

Jit, they generally don't inform you if you get no money. Engineering has several scholarships, but I don't know if you need to have used the scholarship app. I know quite a few people who already have scholarship offers from quarter to full-tuition from Cockerell.

I'm starting to think that I didn't get any scholarship from the school. Being NMF guarantees you for the $14000 if you are instate and list UT as your first choice?

If you are a NMF and live in-state, you should be guaranteed $3,000 per year plus an additional $1,000 the freshman year.

If you have already listed UT as your first choice with NMSC, it should already be on your CASH page. If you listed another school, you should change your choice ASAP. Once a school offers you a scholarship, that's the only offer you get, so if you change to UT after an offer is made, you get no money. If you are listed as undecided you need to notify NMSC ASAP so UT will know to award you money.

Is the ER Breaker award the same as the OOS NMS scholarship?

I just check and there is nothing there except a statement stating that they have received my scholarship application and they will continue to send out the scholarships throughout May. I had already told NMSC that I have chosen UT as my first choice about a month ago. However, I just paid my enrollment deposit today. Could this have something to do with it?

Thanks for your help... I'm just a little bit anxious about all of this.

This morning D's "financial aid" status changed. It now shows we can take out loans to meet her cost of attendance. That's financial aid? :-) (It's okay, MidwestDad2Kids and I both work - we weren't expecting need-based aid.)

Just thought maybe, as veggieheadgeek said,

If you go to CASH and view your financial history, there is a chance that scholarships will be posted there.

It's like that for me too. I think it's because they decided not to put some of those scholarships that were guaranteed (like NMF in-state tuition) in the "History" section anymore. That's what it's like for me at least.

This is really ridiculous though, because I'd like to make a decision on schools soon but I can't without knowing money info from Texas. They are taking forever.
