Well short story...got a call from Allegheny College about tennis, they gave me a 'leadership application' (basically a free one with express decision) and I got accepted.

Wondering if anyone has any knowledge about the school or anything? Fun place to be? I really dono what else

also its the only school thats gotten back to me so far so just wondering.

We visited Allegheny on a whim on the way to upstate NY. ALthough it's in the middle of nowhere just south of Erie, PA, it seemed like a nice LAC, albeit a bit isolated. They have a nice campus and programs seemed progressive. It wasn't the right place for my D, BUT it is the first choice of one of my friend's sons. The student who gave us our tour chose it over wooster.

One of my D's friends was looking at it for international business. They seemed to have some collaborative education programs too, with some of the best grad schools around.

They also seemed to have a nice freshman seminar program. I think they are doing some things very right. It did seem as they have some money to give students. Best of luck.

hmm these are some good things! supposedly since I received the leadership application I should have first dibs at merit scholarships and princetonreview said the average merit scholarship was ~18k. i'm glad these guys offered me this though, they said they'd get back to me in a while about moneys. maybe i'll have to visit it

The school has an excellent reputation, is known for having high academic standards in general and for encouraging students to pursue unusual combinations of interests and interdisciplinary studies. I have never visited there, but I have also heard that 1) the campus is very nice and 2) the town and general surroundings are in the middle of nowhere and somewhat economically depressed.

Allegheny is one of Loren Pope's "Colleges That Change Lives" - very good rep for DIII athletics - my D has a friend there on the track team, and she may be looking at them for XC...

I am an alum, as is my husband. We graduated in 1978, but we visit the campus every few years and stay reasonably abreast of happenings there. None of our 3 sons attended there but we would have been very happy to send them. I think it is a school that would be more well known if it were in a better location. You can PM me if you like.

Allegheny College is in Northwestern PA... which suffers lake-effect snow, not so good. I just got accepted to Allegheny in December through the Leadership Application too. Merit scholarships only go up to 15,000 per year, so for a grand total of 60,000 for four years.

Allegheny is an intense school.. requires all students to take a major and a minor in two contrasting subjects. They have an extensive senior project and a freshman seminar. I am not sure how the area is, have yet to visit. I heard the campus is beautiful though.
