i got rejected from santa clara. but i got into uc davis and irvine which is wayy better. and the thing is that i live like 20 minutes away from scu. and i come from a private school which is verrry close to santa clara and almost everyone from my school is admitted. my gpa is a 3.6. my SAT without writing is 1240. my sister got a full scolarship to scu with around my same statitistics a few years ago (but didn't attend). my uncle did his mba there! the only thing is that im not catholic. but i come from a catholic private high school that is closely related with scu!!!!! it doesn't make sense to me! can anyone explain?

Steve Nash played college ball there. With him, they became one of the only four #15 seeds to beat a #2 seed in the NCAA tournament.

SCU is omne of the fast up and commers. It's gotten much harder to get into. Would not at all call the lower UCs better.

i beg to differ. most uc's are much better than scu. i know the type of people that attend scu and let's just say those are the people that don't get in anywhere else. i guess things changed this year of course.

Santa Clara is a good school. Since you live nearby, that may have affected your admissions. I'm sure they are trying to attract more out-of-staters, while the UCs prefer in-state kids.

I would say that the UCs generally are larger, while SCU is more personalized. Very different aura between the schools.

Congratulations on the UCs. They are cool schools.

Good luck.
IB

maybe your attitude about SCU came thru in your app, recs, or interviews.

I would way rather have a degree from SCU than one of the tens of thousands from a mid tier UC. SC has a great network nd much better access to good jobs than a mid UC. Classes are small. I'd go to Cal first, and LA bizecon, SD BME, but SC before any other UC program. Actually, I didn't apply to any of these, but considered as my dad is a CA res.

no i didn't have any bad attitude in my application. why would i do that??? and how?? it's not like i sat there and dissed scu in my essays. and the reason i say uc's are much better is because 1. they are all ranked higher and 2. uc's are going up and building way faster than scu is.

i just think the atmosphere of scu is boring. it is full of rich catholic kids because they used to base a lot of their acceptances on private catholic bay area schools. seeing that i was rejected, i guess this isnt the case anymore. i know someone who goes there and that is how i know this. i'm not just assuming it. i have always been around rich catholic kids my whole life. i want to break away from that. uc's are more diverse and bring people from all over together. scu was just my safety since i go to a catholic school.
(btw im not saying EVERYONE that goes there is rich and catholic. just the majority) but thanks for the responses everyone.

yea that is true..i live like 15 minutes from santa clara university and there's no doubt that you can say it's a lot of those typical rich catholic kids. no offense, but that's definitely the impression u get when u just walk onto their campus.
