Still waiting for my D to access her email. She is in dance right now! So nerve-wracking! This is her last school!

Same here. 3:04am. UGH! Only applied to CCM,CMU, BOCO. Content to to take gap year and re-apply. Good luck everyone!

Congrats to u and ur D fanofalli!

Still nothing

Fingers crossed that your D gets into BOCO!

You are not asking for any advice and I hope I am not overstepping bounds to say the following but as both a parent and college admissions advisor, I feel compelled (at least for the sake of anyone reading who hasn’t yet applied to college for MT)…

No matter how talented your D is in MT, applying to just three programs in MT, and in fact, three of the most selective and competitive ones out there, is a recipe for disappointment and very very risky odds. Of course, she may get into one of them (BOCO). But I do not advise anyone to apply to just three BFA in MT programs, not to mention only the most competitive ones.

I read on CC’s Parent Forum a post you wrote that your D plans to apply again next year (if not accepted this year) to ONLY her top choice school, which I am inferring is CMU (correct me if I am wrong).

(March 15):

Honestly, that is even scarier to me than the process your D did this year. The acceptance rate for MT at CMU is about 2 1/2 %. If your D was the most talent MT girl in the US, she still might not get in with those odds, and particularly after having tried once unsuccessfully.

What concerns me is how badly does your D want to go to college to study and train in MT? If she does, and even if she improves her skill set by leaps and bounds during a gap year, to apply to only ONE BFA program, one of the lowest odds programs in the country for girls, is a set up for having no place to go yet again.

The focus on ONE school as the end all and be all for a student is ill advised. There is certainly more than one school and MT program where your D can be happy and thrive and receive an outstanding education and MT training. The odds of getting into one and only one BFA in MT program are EXTREMELY low. She should learn from this year’s experience and cast a wider net if she really wants to go to college for MT. Instead, she is lowering her odds even more to a lottery ticket pretty much. It seems silly to me to end up at no college for two years with this approach if she badly wants to study MT and she could possibly be in some place this year or next year if she applies to a longer list that is well balanced.

Again, fingers crossed for her and others above with regard to BOCO admissions.

Still no word. I am stressing!!

to cc counselor if I might ask for some advice. My daughter as well had her sights set on the top schools and have been rejected by all (still waiting for BOCO). She has been accepted for Wagner, Milliken and Muhlenberg and wait listed for Elon but rejected from program. Would you advise going to one of the accepted schools and then trying to transfer. My daughter really wanted to go to Ithaca and sadly had her worse audition there. Also, as a MT counselor what are the chances of going to a school like Elon and then trying to move into the bFA program her sophomore year. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

cda, your D’s situation is far different that the one of the person I was addressing in my post. Your D apparently did apply to some of the most competitive programs but also had a balanced list and indeed has some options! I hope she liked every school on her list if she opted to apply to them.

I would not advise to enter college with the thoughts of transferring. I would encourage her to embrace her college and give it a full shot. Rejections are a part of this process.

I can’t advise where to go to school next year as it is a very individual choice. Your D has 3 very different options. Milliken is a BFA. Wagner is a BA by audition and Muhlenberg is a BA in theater but can be combined with singing and dancing. Wagner has the NYC aspect if that appeals. If it were me, and it isn’t, I’d be revisiting and choosing between Wagner and Muhlenberg.

I would not enter a school, such as Elon, in the regular BA with the hopes of being able to transfer into the MT program. The odds seem extremely low and worse than being admitted as a freshman to the BFA, which she already was not. Your D has three options already where she can do MT. She should forget the rejected schools and focus on what she does have. She should not be thinking about transferring. Time to move on and embrace the really fine options on her plate and not look back but just look forward. I would not discuss transferring at all at this juncture and that should only come up if she is unhappy at her college down the line.

That is my advice.

E-mails are going out. S is waitlisted.
