anyone hearing about merit scholarships yet?

Just wondering if anyone has been offered any other merit scholarships yet, suc as Cooper, Alumni awards, etc.

I believe I read that they could out anytime between now and the first week of March.

Just starting to get antsy.

I spoke with admissions last week and they stated that they would be released on the 15th.

thanks cap'n g

Thanks to everyone for sharing their info! We are also eager to learn more about a possible merit scholarship. S got one from an in-state (SUNY) school, but his heart is with SC. That in-state tuition will make all the difference. We are leaving for a week's vacation on Friday 2/16, so I guess we'll be waiting to hear about this a bit longer than perhaps is necessary... unless, of course, USC "overnights" the letters for a Friday morning delivery. (Hmmm, not likely, I suppose.) Anyway, best wishes to all the other "waiters" and hope to see you in sunny Columbia someday soon.

Good luck to all of you - I know what a bonus that in-state was for our family!
Last year the letter did come by snail mail - maybe you can have a friend check your mailbox for any USC mail and phone you? I'm very impatient LOL
When mail would come and my daughter was at lacrosse practice until late in the day I would be chomping at the bit to open them!

Well, we thought something might come Saturday if they released it on Thursday, but, no luck.

Maybe tomorrow.

Just saw on Scott Verzel's blog that offers are being mailed "this week." So I guess we can expect them any time from Thursday to next Tuesday.

I did not get anything in the mail yet, but my dad called the admissions office and they said that I had received some kind of scholarship and would be getting in-state tuition.

That's great, maybe we will get the letters tomorrow!

S got a letter offering a scholarship today. Also mentioned Scholar's Day date at the bottom and said more info would be forthcoming about Scholar's Day.

greenville

You always seem to get things a day early, you lucky devil. Hopefully ours will come today. Fingers crossed. I want this to be over with, and I am sure my son does too.

I can't buy all my Gamecock gear until we know for sure!

We got the letter today. Just as we had hoped, S got the Cooper. $4,000 per year plus in-state.

YIPPPPEEEEE!

namtrag - Could you please post your stats, SAT/ACT, UW GPA etc? Thanks.

SAT 680 Math, 740 CR

Unweighted GPA 3.9

Weighted GPA 4.51

Rank at time of application 6/490

Unfortunately he dropped to 8th after 1st semester even though he made straight A's

namtrag - Thanks. Those are nice stats. I guess my D will get a McKissick, as her stats are a tad lower.

you never know!

It's all good, escpecially the in-state tuition!

What happens if 10 McNair finalists decide to go elsewhere after this weekend's intervies? Do they replace them, or just reduce the awards to 30 total?

There were 41 finalists invited for this weekend. 20 will eventually be named McNair Scholars. The non-scholar finalists get a big (but not as big) award.

I received a McKissick today! My dad is particularly excited because of the instate tuition rates.

Yes Mary, but what if someone like Gettinoutabuffalo, who is a finalist, comes down for the weekend, gets the award, but then decides to go to UNC, where he also might have got an award.

Do they replace him or just have 40 people getting awards instead of 41?

Congrats Jubillee!
