anyone help me choose university?

Hi! I am a student from Myanmar. I am wondering which schools to choose from. Can anyone help me choose the ones that have a good reputation with electrical engineering? The schools that I have doubts with are :

Stanford Univ
university of illinois-urbana campaign
Cal tech
Georgia tech
Purdue Univ
Carnegie Mellon
Cornell
Princeton
Columbia
USC
University of Minnesota
"Rensselaer Polytechnic Inst
Virginia Tech
Polytechnic univ
U M-Amherst
Yale Univ
U of Colorado
U of Arizona
U of Pennsylvania
SUNY-Stony Brook
Utah State Univ
University of Rochester
Iowa State Univ
University of Iowa
SUNY-Buffalo
U of Virginia
University of Rhode Island
"Case Western Reserve Univ"
U of Illinois-Chicago
Oregon State Univ
Pittsburgh
"U of Tennessee-Kinoxville"
Vanderbilt University
U of Kansas
U of Delaware
"Worcester Polytechnic Inst"
Cal Poly Pomona
University of Miami
SUNY-Binghamton
Johnshopkins university
bucknell university
loyola marymount university
Lehigh university
harvey mudd college
Drexel University
Rochester Institute of Technology

I am also an international student and also intend to major in engineering. I also started off with a list as big as yours. Now I’m down to 14. Here’s what you should do.

If you need financial aid then eliminate the following schools from your list
university of illinois-urbana campaign
Georgia tech
Purdue
Carnegie Mellon
USC
Virginia Tech
University of Minnesota
U Colorado
U Arizona
Utah state U
SUNY-Stony Brook
Iowa State Univ
University of Iowa
SUNY-Buffalo
U Virginia
University of Rhode Island
Case Western Reserve
U of Illinois-Chicago
Oregon State Univ
U of Kansas
U of Delaware
SUNY-Binghamton

Most of the colleges that I’ve mentioned are public colleges and do not offer financial aid to international students.

Add to your list:
Dartmouth
Duke
Brown
Swarthmore
Lafayette
Tufts
MIT

They all offer financial aid & have very strong engineering department

I doubt that I would lump those schools in with MIT and label them “very strong” engineering departments. While undergraduate engineering certainly isn’t as varied from school to school as graduate level engineering, I believe your post is misleading.

Duke has a solid engineering school, not MIT-caliber but still very good. After that there is a big fall. Brown and Dartmouth are not particularly strong in engineering - good but nothing special compared to other top schools. Another jump downwards and you have Tufts for engineering.

On the other hand, for a LAC Swarthmore does have a great engineering department. Not sure about Lafayette to be honest. So, just take the term “very strong” with a grain of salt. But if you’re looking for financial aid, then that may change your tune.

I have no idea what your stats are because you listed a mish-mash of schools including some of the best and other very middle of the road colleges. I mean, I don’t know whether your Princeton material or the University of Arizona is more a target school for you. I just don’t know. That is just a random list of colleges, and you really need to do some research based on YOUR statistics and the average stats of colleges. Also, look at acceptance rates and research the strengths of each college. You listed way, way, way too many to possibly even apply to. Perhaps location might be a turnoff or student body or percentage of internationals, etc. - you need to consider schools that fit. Perhaps you want a liberal arts college or maybe a non-LAC private school or maybe simply a state school. You have to provide more information.

But, here are some other ones I would look into for engineering:

University of Michigan (can’t believe you didn’t mention THAT one)
Northwestern
Pennsylvania State University
Rice
Berkeley (another one I’m surprised you didn’t mention)

admission to Berkeley is quite tough and they don’t offer financial aid to internationals.

and about my previous post, I wasn’t actually comparing any of the universities, I was just suggesting him the ones which offer engineering.

Brown & Dartmouth actually have a good engineering department (though I do agree, nothing special). But its worth applying there
