<p>I am also an international student and also intend to major in engineering. I also started off with a list as big as yours. Now I’m down to 14. Here’s what you should do.</p>
<p>If you need financial aid then eliminate the following schools from your list

<p>Most of the colleges that I’ve mentioned are public colleges and do not offer financial aid to international students.</p>
<p>Add to your list:
Dartmouth
Duke
Brown
Swarthmore
Lafayette
Tufts

<p>I doubt that I would lump those schools in with MIT and label them “very strong” engineering departments. While undergraduate engineering certainly isn’t as varied from school to school as graduate level engineering, I believe your post is misleading. </p>
<p>Duke has a solid engineering school, not MIT-caliber but still very good. After that there is a big fall. Brown and Dartmouth are not particularly strong in engineering - good but nothing special compared to other top schools. Another jump downwards and you have Tufts for engineering.</p>
<p>On the other hand, for a LAC Swarthmore does have a great engineering department. Not sure about Lafayette to be honest. So, just take the term “very strong” with a grain of salt. But if you’re looking for financial aid, then that may change your tune.</p>
<p>I have no idea what your stats are because you listed a mish-mash of schools including some of the best and other very middle of the road colleges. I mean, I don’t know whether your Princeton material or the University of Arizona is more a target school for you. I just don’t know. That is just a random list of colleges, and you really need to do some research based on YOUR statistics and the average stats of colleges. Also, look at acceptance rates and research the strengths of each college. You listed way, way, way too many to possibly even apply to. Perhaps location might be a turnoff or student body or percentage of internationals, etc. - you need to consider schools that fit. Perhaps you want a liberal arts college or maybe a non-LAC private school or maybe simply a state school. You have to provide more information. </p>
<p>But, here are some other ones I would look into for engineering:</p>
<p>University of Michigan (can’t believe you didn’t mention THAT one)
Northwestern
Pennsylvania State University
Rice
Berkeley (another one I’m surprised you didn’t mention)</p>
<p>admission to Berkeley is quite tough and they don’t offer financial aid to internationals.</p>
