Does anyone know which professors are good? I just need to know if I have to switch to another section if there are any professors that are particularly good. Right now I'm signed up for Fornaess. Math 116 was a random GSI, so I want a good math professor for fall 2006. Thanks.

I took Calc 3 (math 215) 2nd semester freshman year. I had Stephen DeBacker, who was pretty good and told funny stories. I heard Fornaess is good also. It's not that hard and the curve is generally better than 116. You also have homework and labs which help your grade. The first two sections of the class are really straightforward, but things get complicated in the last unit. I had no idea what was going on, but I they made all the practice tests the same, so I just memorized how to do the problems and got an A-. Haha. the class is curved to a b/b-, which is average/better than average for michigan. It's not that hard to get an A- or an A though. Good luck!

I didn't have him for 215, but I second Debacker being sweet. He knows the material so well he doesn't even need to do any preparation before lecture.

Thanks for the helpful info. I'll see which section Debacker will be teaching as soon as that info becomes available. So far, Fornaess and Kolesnikov (who supposedly is also very good) are the only ones who got a section. Of course I registered long before, but only a few of my classes so far have professors with names. I doubt the other sections are open at this point, though.

I'd recommend DeBacker too, even though I've never had him. Didn't really like the way Fornaess taught. He makes u do practice problems in class and walks around and looks over ur shoulder, then picks some student to go up and write it on the board. This technique might help students who are a little "slower", but seriously, I can do practice problems on my own. When I'm in class, I expect an in-depth lecture. I didn't pay $1000 to do practice problems in class.

I had debacker and strongly reccommend him. I've sat in in some other prof's lectures (like dean) and they werent nearly as good as his.
