Waiting, waiting. Will we wait it out until the 20th?

Don’t know, redpoint, but I hope you get a positive response. I know when my daughter did EA the decision came by snail mail, so there was a bit of extra waiting and going crazy time. I just checked their site and saw a Dec. 20 date…when she applied, she had to wait for January. Keep the thread posted. One more time…good luck!!!

Thanks! It feels so lonely waiting here there’s no one else on this thread.

Yes, that happens, (meaning not a lot of LU posts on CC) but if you get your happy dance news and go to LU, you will make friends. LU people are not always the ‘CC’ types I think, based on when I discovered this awesome website back when my daughter was a senior in high school. She is a junior at LU now (wow how times flies), but studying abroad/about to return home next week…and so I drive her and her car full of ‘stuff’ to LU early January for the start of winter quarter. You won’t be lonely once you go there. I will do my best to remember to check the CC site starting the 20th and onward to see if you post the admission news. Hang in there. I still remember her calling me at work and screaming that she got in, plus her checking the mailbox every day starting on the 15th of January back in 2011… good news must come your way. :)

Thanks so much. It’s at the top of my D’s list. Crossing my fingers for some $.

They will surely give some. We got a bit in terms of a small scholarship, and they help with merit aid, too. They do their best. News of the scholarship came in the same mailing. The other pieces of money came after doing FAFSA by their deadline. In fact, the year my daughter got in, a mailing about financial aid came BEFORE the acceptance, and we were confused. We didn’t know if it was a ‘sign’ that good news was coming or ?? I hope you and your D get good news around the 20th. Hang in there. I know it’s ‘crazy making’ waiting for the acceptance letters to roll in.

Lawrence is on the top of my daughter’s list as well. She just heard good news from Case Western, but is still waiting to hear from Lawrence and Kalamazoo. It is hard, isn’t it? I feel like there ought to be a word for mothers who get Senioritis.

My kid is waiting on Kalamazoo also – great minds think alike! She did get one very good EA response, and you can tell by looking at her the relief has brought. All the burdens of this past year lifted away. What a weight off her shoulders knowing she has somewhere to go. These poor kids. I feel badly for those who have only started with rejection or a deferral (maybe even worse). Bring it on, Lawrence!

Can’t wait to hear back! So far, every interaction that I’ve had with them has been great, and they have been fluctuating between my 1, 2, & 3 choices!

Have any of you done visits/been there yet?

Does Lawrence notify with email as well as letter? I keep seeing references to the big envelope, but I’m hoping they give some info via email, because we’ll be out of town for the holidays. Does anyone know? Also, some schools give all the scholarship offers via email as well, but for others, you have to wait for snail mail. Not sure where Lawrence fits in this.

Oh, sorry Sampoww22, meant to respond to your question.

Yes, my D and I visited Lawrence this summer. She fell in love with it practically before we got to the campus. I’m not sure what it is, something in the air around Appleton? Everyone was very friendly, down-to-earth and unpretentious. The campus has antique grandfather clocks inherited from a merger with Downer College. The athletic center is beautiful. There’s a nice little Wallgreens-type drugstore in the student center. There is a big emphasis on independent study, which means you can design your own courses with your own choice of professors. A lot of non-music majors avail themselves of the music programs or get cheap music lessons. The dining services has recently been revamped. In some ways it reminded me a bit of Oberlin in terms of the combination of Music Academy and Liberal Arts college, with tons of 5-year double majors, but it’s not as isolated as Oberlin. The campus is very close to downtown Appleton, which has a big performing arts center that attracts plays and bands. The city is definitely small and Midwestern in flavor–a bit underwhelming I’m sure for some students from big urban areas. But my D is from Tokyo and loved it. She visited 11 colleges, including a few that are a lot more famous, and Lawrence came out on top. Of course, we were visiting in the summer. Midwestern winters may be a bit of a shock to her.

The chemistry of a campus is a bit of a mystery. I fell in love with Macalester, but then, I’m not the one going off to college soon. I do think it’s hard to know how you’ll react without visiting.

That said, my D thinks she will be happy at any of the colleges she applied to. It doesn’t have to be a perfect fit for her. It just has to be a good school with interesting kids and professors and a solid science program. I think being somewhat pragmatic can help sort out the options. In the end, college is what you make of it.

Hello Redpoint! I’m an international student from India and I’ve also applied EA to Lawrence. It’s nice to know there are other people waiting on Lawrence as well. You’re right about there not being a lot of LU posts on CC. And I’m glad we got a thread going! I myself am so confused. I thought they would notify us about our acceptance or rejection BY the 20th! Looks like there’s not much to do but wait it out. From a FB picture that Lawrence put up from their page, seems like they’re in the midst of signing and packing envelopes. They should be sending it out this week. sigh I wish you well! We’re all in this together!

OverseasMama- Thank you for your insight! It’s very helpful. Like your daughter, I will be a science major, and I the Midwestern workers will be a huge shocker, even though I am from Colorado! Would you say that the research opportunities at LU are comparable to those at large universities?

Hitkarschanana- And according to their latest post, they are sending them today!

Hello from Lawrence University!

One of our own actually just posted a blog about admission decisions and you can find it here if you’re curious –

The decision letters were actually just dropped off at the post office –

Talk about inside info Thanks!

There was no email for my daughter, only snail mail. Some internationals may have gotten emails prior to the snail mail. Ah, I love the picture you posted here…those ‘big white envelopes’…still have my D’s saved at home.

Overseas Mama, I’m from an area close to Mac, as it’s known locally, and I love LU/Appleton much more, though my D wouldn’t agree with me. Appleton isn’t her fav city for a few reasons, but she has embraced it because she chose LU. Mac is basically ‘in a huge metropolitan area’ and it’s hard to discern a totally separate campus like one finds at LU; LU and Appleton are much more ‘separate’ with Appleton having a much more ‘small town’ feel. I like what you said about you not being the one going off to college.

Winter may be the biggest shock, but it is all part of the adventure.

And hitkarshchanana, LU works hard to have lots of international students as part of the population. For such a small student body, it has much diversity. There are some decent Indian restaurants in town; one of my daughter’s friends from India would barter for discounts on large groups of students at one of their favorite eateries.

Good luck to you all. I hope you all get great news. :)

Ah, inside info indeed! Seems like they’ve finally dropped off the packages. They should be in the mail anytime now!

@Lawrencemom : Haha! Indian restaurants! Sounds great! My mom would be happy. And yes, infact I did receive an email from “Air Concepts USA” (the international courier service Lawrence is using to mail it’s international applicants) saying that Lawrence University is sending a package to me. I received the email over 10 days ago on the 6th of December to be precise, and me and my family have been in doubt ever since as they gave me a tracking number for my courier but till date the status only says “shipment details received”. That is all!

Glad to know this is finally happening. The anticipation, the curiosity. fingers crossed

I’m really glad we got this thread going. Feels nice not to wait alone.

I wish you all well!

I aim to please. :D

A packet…a packet…a packet is very good news in my way of thinking. Hitkarschanana… do post when you get your packet. A packet MUST contain good news. I can’t wait until Dec. 20 and beyond when people start posting their good news. Then I can say ‘congrats.’

Hi All!
My D is also waiting for an EA decision from Lawrence. Today is her birthday, hopefully no bad news today! We’re hoping for a packet “present”. It is also at the top of her list, we visited this summer and she loved it. Good luck everyone!
