Anyone in Linguistics major?!

Hello!! I'm actually gonna be transferring this fall! My current major is Communications but I'm thinking of changing it to Linguistics cus Comm at ucsd turned out to be sorta different than I thought it would be..So I was researching thru all the majors again and became interested in Linguistics major!

However, I have NO idea how the major is like since I haven't seen anyone around me that studies this major..So I just wanted to know how the major itself is like..For example, what do you learn in Linguistics classes? What do they focus on? Also..is it more of "writing" or "mulitiple choice?" I'm assuming that it would be more of writing though..but I'm really not a good writer :( lol..

Anyway! So..I just want some opinions about Linguistics major at ucsd..So if anyone knows or wants to comment anything about it, please help me! Thank you! :)

hmm not a linguistic major here but this might help you

just take some lign classes (into classes are like lign 7, 8, ect) , talk to your professors about majoring in linguistics and they will be more than happy to talk to you about the programs

Sign up for ling100 asap as that’s pretty much a summary of all linguistics, and should give you a clear idea of whether you want to pursue it as a major.
