Anyone in the same boat as me?

I applied RD in early december, expecting to hear back in about 5 weeks. My online status has been "pending review" for about 3 months now. I guess my question is - why have i waited for so long? I thought Tulane was rolling admissions...Checking my status everyday is really stressing me out and almost making me lose interest in the university.

Here are my stats

GPA: 3.9
SAT: 2130
ACT: 33
Extra Currics- Eagle Scout, member of my county's Environmental Policy Advisory Council, President of a few clubs, blah blah etc

all my recs should have been fine and I spent a really long time on the personal statement.

anyone else in the same situation/have any words of wisdom for me? Thanks!

I don’t believe Tulane is rolling admissions for RD applicants. Have you called your regional counselor?

Yes, please don’t sour on Tulane because you thought they were rolling admissions and they are not. They only promise RD answers by April 1, although they do sometimes let people know sooner.

Clearly your stats make you seem like a certain admit, but then again we cannot see everything. 3.9 W or UW? AP’s? You don’t need to answer those unless you want, just saying it is hard to tell based on that limited information. I strongly encourage you to talk to your admissions counselor [Tulane Admission: Meet Your Counselor](http://admission.tulane.edu/counselors/index.php) and let them know that Tulane is a strong choice for you. At least I assume it is or you wouldn’t care if they let you know or not.

Is it possible they are waiting for your first semester grades?

That is so weird that we made the basically the same threads at basically the same time.

sorry, I was just trying to give a quick profile

W/UW 3.9/~3.7
AP’s - 6 through the end of senior year
All other classes have been honors

idad- thanks for the heads up! haha i wish i had known that 3 months ago =)

fallenchemist- I was frustrated when I wrote that earlier post…haha I have an unconditional love for Tulane. My parents aren’t too hot on the idea of me going all the way to NO for school, but I’ll convince 'em. Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to shoot my admissions counselor an email, I usually get home from school too late to call during office hours…

Good to hear. It is nervewracking, I know.

Tulane is like most competitive admission schools, they really like to know that you have Tulane as first choice. If that is true in your case, be sure to tell them that. It helps.

I have been waitlisted and I am in absolute shock. Tulane, it woulda been nice but now I’m looking elsewhere.

Milk - I am very sorry to hear that you are waitlisted. I have to admit, I am surprised as well. I don’t know if that means the yield is running high or what. You might want to double check with your admissions counselor.

If not and Tulane is really off your list, it would be a nice thing for you to let them know that you are not interested in the waitlist. It is more for other students that really want to go to Tulane than for the school.

Truly, best of luck with whatever you decide and whereever you end up.

I just got waitlisted too. SERIOUSLY? I wasn’t even considering Tulane until I got the Personal Application. I’m so ****ed. Tulane was a top school for me.

Stats: ACT - 36 Math, 35 Eng, 33, composite; GPA - 3.9 uw, 4.2w, ; SAT Math 11 - 800, Physics 750; All 5’s on AP exams; Varsity Golf - 4 years, captain senior year; Musical Theater, principal roles all 4 years; NHS, Treasurer; mega volunteer hours, etc.; various scholastic awards & distinctions. She listed MIT, Duke & a couple of Ivies for other colleges applied to - don’t know if that hurt her chances. Tulane was not her safety. It came highly recommended by a family friend - an engineer (that’s D’s goal). When she called the admissions office to find out how far down on the list she happened to be, they said it had not yet been put in any order - that they were waiting to hear from the wait-listed students to determine how much they really wanted to attend Tulane. So, if you’re seriously interested, I’d suggest you let them know how much Tulane means to you. We certainly will.

I guess Tulane doesn’t like Eagle Scouts. ;)

S just got waitlisted. ACT 34, NMF, WGPA3.7, AP Scholar w/Honor, impressive ECs. Got in Chicago, BC, NYU & others. Perhaps his GPA hurt him, but from the posts above I see he’s in good company.

He was seriously interested in Tulane, and hoping for merit money.

I must say that I’m surprised students with such good stats are being waitlisted. Those ACT scores put them in the top quartile of last year’s admitted students. I think the mid 50% was something like 28-32??? You’d think that would be enough to make the cut. What does this indicate, if anything, about the incoming class?

act 32 got in nyu, wash u and u of wisconsin madison, thinking tulane is trying to drive up numbers with early admit tactics, etc.

A Tulane Admissions counselor said the average ACT for this year’s accepted students is 32.

Waitlisted with 30 ACT, 3.8 WGPA, eagle scout, lots of EC’s, tons of community service…and after all the propaganda to apply in the mail! Very interesting that they stress community service and someone like me who is an eagle scout and has spent over 200 hours in high school volunteering is not accepted…

fallenchemist can chime in, but my impressions from this year’s admission cycle is that Tulane extended an enormous amount of offers in the EA round; many, many of those students have not replied yet (they don’t have to until May 1st) so it is evident that Tulane cannot extend further offers until they have responses…

as mentioned above, if Tulane is your first choice, let them know…and if you are full-pay, can’t hurt either…

as an end note, not sure, but it may make sense for Tulane to somehow readjust their admissions policies so they don’t miss out on these high scoring RD kids…and that there would be scholarship $$ available to those students who obviously deserve it.

Rodney is right about kids who already have been admitted not committing yet. My DD and I attended the 1st Honors Weekend in March. When Pres. Cowen asked the whole group how many had committed to Tulane, only 2 hands went up. Students at this level(for the most part) are all waiting to hear from schools that make decisions known around April 1. My DD, who won a DHS, is among those kids who have not said a definite “yes”. It is all but certain she will attend Tulane, but I think she feels the weight of “what if”? We are letting her see her path to the end but we will definitely commit soon on or after April 1.
I believe there would be a lot of kids making final decisions before May 1. Maybe there will be early movement on the waitlist in April?

I think Rodney has hit the nail on the head, and I expect that commitments will increase significantly once financial aid notifications are made - I know that’s what we’re waiting for.

My D is also one of the hold-outs who found out in November that she was accepted but has not yet made a decision. Our situation though is we are still waiting on the FA package. She did received $15,000/yr merit which is great and nice for the ego, but does not make a big dent in the enormous cost - and she’s a twin. We are taking a leap faith and visiting on 4/20 in hopes that the amount of FA coming will be close to what her twin sister got from Lafayette College, PA. After speaking with a FA counselor at Tulane, without promising anything, she did indicate that since the colleges use similar formulas, it will likely be close. I am hopeful that this is the case and we are not wasting our time on this trip. In our situation, we need all the facts before making a decision which includes knowing the complete FA situation. Until that info is released, we’re not quite ready to make a choice one way or another about her spot.

No other thoughts on the issue, actually. I think you all have nailed it. I am not sure you could pay me enough to be head of admissions. I really don’t know how they do it.
