Is anyone looking into Bennington or applying to Bennington this year? Any information for a prospective student? The website never seems to work for me.

your username fits so well with the perception of the students at bennington

what are your questions? I will answer as best I can, although I have only been here for 3 weeks

My daughter is at Bennington and so I can give you some information, but only from a parental view, and from afar! What kind of information were you looking for?

My S is very interested in Bennington. We toured in August and loved the campus. The School is pretty small and that means a limited pool of people to work with and a limited pool of courses to take. Incredible art, drama and dance facilities!

I'm interested in film, and while I think it would be really interesting to attend a small school, I'm worried about being so isolated. I'm not much of a partier, so that isn't a concern for me, but how active is the social scene?
Also, what are the opportunities for film students? Thanks.

I would say that the social scene is very active here. I am not a partier either but I have enjoyed some of the theme parties where there is dressing up, dancing, and just hanging out and talking. There are always many, many events, plays, concerts, etc. to attend on campus and there is an active outdoors club that takes trips (hiking, rafting, etc.) off campus. I have found it very easy to make friends here, much easier than in high school. I had been worried that it might feel cliquey but have not found that to be the case. While there are small groups of friends that tend to usually hang out together, it seems easy to meet them and to spend time with them. Most people seem friendly and open to new friends. Because it is a small campus it is always easy to find your friends in the dining hall, the library, or just hanging out on the commons lawn. As for film, I have not been involved in anything related to that yet but many people here certainly are. I think those people really appreciate the freedom they have to do what they want creatively and I think there are always many willing "victims" to be a part of any project, meaning actors, directors, camera people, etc. the only negative here is that there are a limited number of classes to be taken at any given time. On the other hand, you can work with professors on things outside of the class structure.
