anyone international here?

i thought internationals were not allowed to apply for financial aid?

cuz obviously my family don't pay taxes to US gov, and we have no source of income in US, and i couldn't fill out FAFSA since i have no social security number or whatever. and my GC was not much help, so i asked my fellow international student and she told me I'm not qualified for any financial aid and she couldn't apply to any of them either... so i just did't apply for financial aid hoping maybe i'll get some merit scholarships??

but i got my acceptance packet today! and in there was an another white envelop with letter saying, if you didn't apply for financial aid in the beginning, we assume that you can fully support four years of tuition without any kind of help!!!???!?!

-so here's my question:: does this mean if i didn't turn in fafsa/css-profile or anything like that, i have absolutely NO chance of getting any kind of merit scholarship? because i would obviously really like to get some merit scholarships from Wellesley...

I'll write to Wellesley regarding this, but I just wanted to ask some CCers.. just in case if anyone was international here... anyone?

Yeah, I'm an international too. Congratulations on your acceptance!!! I don't kn a lot about the financial aid process because my parents took care of it more than I did. But anyways, I applied for financial aid and I used the CSS profile. I have the same question for other universities too.

By the way, which country are you from? Because I haven't got the acceptance letter or any likely letter. lol, probably getting rejected. Did you apply regular decision?

i applied EE..
and I'm actually from Korea, but I have been attending school in US for more than 4 years,,, as an international student.

and the letter will probably take some time to reach you if you're from out of country.. don't lose hope yet!;)

Congratulation happyggal!!
I just wondered one thing... I don't think Wellesley offers merit scholarships. Maybe it is different for internationals, but for U.S.citizens and permanent residents, the school only offers need-based financial aid...

I can't answer the question about international financial aid--your best bet is to talk to the international students' advisor and/or the financial aid office. But, to clarify, Wellesley doesn't offer merit-based scholarships. Only need-based ones.

If you're concerned about the overall cost of the school, see if you're eligible for any outside scholarships: awards from corporations or institutions based on essays or applications or community service, etc. They won't be from Wellesley, but you should be able to apply them to your educational expenses.

Good luck!

ohh. so no merit based scholarships, huh...

i didn't know that..

i should call and ask about international financial aid. thx everyone:)

i am a korean international too, living in the united states.
umm - wellesley doesn't give out some aid to internationals - but very competitive.
you should've filled out the international financial aid from from college board.
well, because i live in the states and my parents make money in the states, i submitted CSS Profile and my parents' tax forms.

mm the mail didn't come today either!
sigh

ohh. hey dinosaurrawr! your korean international too?:D

since we don't earn any money in the states... and we certainly don't pay any taxes, so it's really hard for me to figure out what to do. since all the financial aid applications include (i think) tax forms or whatever and i can't fill any of those out.

well hope you get in! and good luck;)

I'm an international applicant who was accepted RD. Does Wellesley give out need-based financial aid to all accepted applicants? Because I really won't be able to attend without aid.

umm you could've filled out the international financial aid request form
or something like that - published by collegeboard
that form is designed for students who live aboard + apply for FA.

mmm,
i think wellesley does give out FA to int'l students

i haven't gotten my letter, and i applied for FA.
we will see,

oh yeah - in my previous post -
i meant: wellesley DOES give out FA to int'ls, but it's really competitive.

Well, I filled out the Common Application Financial Aid form. But I'm still a bit worried. Is Wellesley known to be generous, or at least reasonable, in its aid offers? :o

<a href="http://www.bibl.u-szeged.hu/reac-europe/intfinaid_awards.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.bibl.u-szeged.hu/reac-europe/intfinaid_awards.html</a></p>

check this out -

i believe wellesley's quite reasonable. i received the total amount i needed to attend just today and it's more than half the total cost so if you demonstrate need, i don't think you'll have any problems. good luck =)

you are... international?

oh dear - i hope i get my letter today.

yes, from turkey.you?

i am korean, currently living in californiaaa!
