I was wondering if there were any of you who are still waiting for your decision for Michigan, but have largely given up on even going because of this slow response? Michigan is my top school, but at this point, I am tired of waiting for a school that I only have a 50/50 chance at, and I think I want to just give up on Michigan.

Anybody else out there in this same predicament? I'd love to go to Michigan, but I am a month from having to make a choice, and I wan't to just know already (most of my friends know where they are going, and are getting in their school's spirit, but Michigan is keeping me from really getting excited about any other school).

dd is still waiting as well, feeling negative so just needs to hear the official “no” to commit elsewhere…if accepted, I don’t know what she’d do! I just hadd a live chat to confirm they did receive her first semester grades, which they did, and asked if there was anything else we could do. Reply was that decision would be released mid-April at latest and that her application was still under review…additional letters fine but no guarantee they’d be read as not required.

I think Michigan will be very surprised at how small the yield rate will be this year. All these people that would love to go, but are getting their decisions so late…its not going to work. I am an OOS, so I still would like to visit the school before I commit but this late decision is making that next to impossible.

Next year, they should just make their App due January 1st if it will make their lives easier.

im like don’t care about michigan anymore; i know even if i’m accepted, i probably will be heading to UCLA ~` i’m pretty set on UCLA, but im still waiting…giving michigan a chance…

Pretty much to that point. Kind of hoping S doesn’t get in at this point so that we have no guilt feelings about turning down in-state tuition. Definitely not favorably impressed with their admissions process compared to other schools.

S JUST received email saying he was admitted to UofM (Alexandre is probably laughing now). Now the decision will be really tough. Mentally he had checked out of that option and just bought his UIUC sweatshirt Monday. Hmmm…

Yup. I had actually gone onto WA to try and withdraw my application (because I’ve decided where I’m going for college), but the view decision link was up and it said a decision is arriving in the mail, which I assume means I’m waitlisted/rejected. I’ll just withdraw my name when I get the letter.

I thought I had a decent chance at Michigan, but they put a lot more weight on GPA than I previously estimated. I thought I would never get into Berkeley (although I’m a CA resident), but I did! Personally, I much prefer the Cal/UCLA admissions process. But that’s probably just because it gives kids like me a chance!

Ya, my parents are getting really mad at me (AS IF THIS IS MY FAULT). I am tired of waiting. Were passed UC decisions. Were past choosy privates. Were even passed Ivy-league decisions.

Does anyone know if Michigan recieved a surge in App’s this year?

“Definitely not favorably impressed with their admissions process compared to other schools.”

Michigan can improve their admissions process. But just because other schools have been more effective with YOUR son’s application does not mean those schools are more efficient with all their applicants or that Michigan is as inefficient with all of its applicants and they have been with your son. I have been involved with Cornell admissions for a couple of years now and their admissions process is as vulnerable to inconsistancies and blunders as Michigan’s. Any school that handles tens of thousands of applicants is going to have those same problems.

Here’s an extreme case that happened just a couple of days ago:

This said, Michigan should work harder on making the admissions process easier on the applicant and less prone to error. Michigan really should have two dates to send out its decisions. The current quasi rolling admissions, regular admissions and early response system does not work.

Instead, we should reply to all ER applicants by December 25. Those rejected or admitted no longer need to worry. The ER applicants that are deferred should go into the general RD pile. All of those RD applicants should be sent the final decision on the same day, April 1 or whatever.

My friend (Last name starts with H) has been waiting for like 4 months… that sucks cuz I (last name L) applied later than her and I got my decision in 3 weeks. I’m waiting for my Ross decision, so I emailed them about it and they said decisions are still being released. It will go until mid/end of April…
