Anyone know about NYU Tisch Cinema Studies?

I am very interested in the Cinema studies program and i am currently putting my portfolio together.

Is anyone in this specific program or know something about it? If so, what do you think about it?

I'm also applying for Cinema Studies at Chapman and USC.

My scope of knowledge about the program is somewhat limited, because I have only just completed my first semester at NYU’s TSOA Cinema Studies program. The program is extremely small with an 2010 incoming class of about 20 students. My Intro to Cinema Studies class was extremely boring, for it highlighted only on information that any student interested in cinema would already be aware of. However, future classes seem to be interesting and next semester, I will be in Film History, which is more promising. I also took an open arts course called History of Documentary Film at Tisch and it turned out to be the most fulfilling class. Along with the Intro class, you are required to take an essay course throughout your freshman year that is focused entirely on the arts. Depending on your professor, this may or may not be your favorite course of the year. Let me know if you have any more specific questions.

I am really interested in the Cinema Studies program at NYU, it’s my number one choice school. I was wondering if you remembered the format for the portfolio you submitted? (i.e. font size, MLA format?, etc.)

Thanks, in advance!

I’m applying to, and I don’t use a works cited in mine, but I’m doing it in helvetica 12.

I’m really confused about how we submit it. Online? In the mail? Does the college have to have it by the 1st, or do we have to mail it by the 1st?

Hey guys,

I was accepted to Cinema Studies early decision and my portfolio was in Times New Roman 12 font for both the essay and the artist statement along with a cover letter as well.

As for submitting, you MUST send the portfolio by mail to the Cinema Studies Department, and as long was the postmark date is the 1st, you should be fine :)

Oh and I used MLA; a works cited never hurts!

Thanks so much!

Yes, that definitely helps me a lot! I regret not doing ED, I was going to do EDII but then a few weeks after the ED deadline I found out that the EDII wasn’t for Tisch applicants. Ugh, especially since NYU is my number one choice school!

But okay, thanks Weah321! I really hope I get accepted, i’m so nervous!
