If there is already a thread on this, I could not find it. I apologize if I'm duplicating.

I'm getting mail from SallieMae offering student loans. They look like they're pretending to be a government agency, but the fine, fine, fine print says they're not. Their rates also seem a little high.

Has anyone here had experience borrowing from SallieMae?

Salliemae is one of the bigger lenders but there are others and some have desirable perks. My son used Salliemae and hasn’t had any issues, we pay online when we can, mainly interest right now, he can have a discount later if there is automatic debit and it’s nice to see everything online. My parent loan with NJClass was a great rate but no online services except to apply…I like being able to see and print out statements, etc. and paying is so easy.
It has gotten some bad press, but I know many that haven’t had issues. I would look around, check out Discover and others to see what they might offer. No loan server will be nice if you don’t pay and make arrangements, the only flak I’ve heard from a few people is they were late and had issues.
