Anyone know about the Top TENN Scholarships?

I read this on Vanderbilt's website:

"Seven incoming freshmen have accepted Top TENN scholarships worth half of their tuition at Vanderbilt for the coming academic year. The students, who come from across the state, qualified for the scholarship program by being ranked No. 1 or 2 in their graduating classes, applying to and being admitted to Vanderbilt."

The statement seems to imply that absolutely all you have to do to be offered a half-tuition scholarships is be a Tennessee student ranked first or second and gain admission. Is this true?

I think that's implied.

Is "Cho" your last name?

Top Tenn Scholarships are awarded to outstanding graduates from secondary schools in Tennessee. Applicants who are ranked first or second in their class at the end of their junior year will be automatically considered. Schools that do not rank may submit the nomination forms that are mailed in the fall to every secondary school in the state.

At my high school, the senior guidance counselor called up all the valedictorians individually (all you need to be a valed. is a 4.0, FYI...so there are like, 20 of us) and asked during the beginning-of-senior-year evaluation if we were interested in applying to Vandy. If you said yes (I would say about 75% of us are probably applying.), she put your name down and sent them to Vandy as guidance department's "reccomendations," which I understand is another requirement for TopTenn.

I'm not sure how they go about narrowing numbers down after that, but hope this helps.
