I've read through most of the threads in this Dance major forum, and am curious if anyone has kept track of statistics for how many students are auditioning vs. getting accepted at various programs?

For example, I read online that at Chapman, they get about 300 application/auctions and accept about 30-35 new students into the program each year, so that's about 10%. In looking at the websites for the dance programs, I'm not finding this kind of information for many schools. If anyone has tracked this, even informally, I'd love to see what you have :-)

The schools we're particularly interested in are in the midwest/west ~~ UC Irvine, Chapman, SMU, U of Arizona, U of Minnesota, U of Iowa, etc. Thank you!!

Don’t know the exact percentage, but I know a few dancers at UA, and they all say it is EXTREMELY competitive to get accepted for the dance or theater major, and all count their blessings to this day that they did!

Someone else on this site posted “I know University of Arizona’s School of Dance is very competitive to get into. My understanding is that they only take about 5% of the 400-500 that audition”, hope that helps.

Wow, I knew it was very competitive, but that’s even more than I thought! Do you think there is any way you could put me in touch with the dancers you know there? I’d sure love to ask them some questions! Perhaps I could give you my email address and see if they’d be willing to answer some questions from my daughter before she auditions? Or maybe they could answer here? Thanks!!

SMU auditions about 500 dancers and will admit about 8%, so we were told during the audition process last year. It is getting to be an extremely popular and competitive program.
