Does anyone know any leadership or academic programs for high school students that look really good on college applications???? Keep in mind I live in eastern KY. Anything would help!!!! Thanks!

What looks good are things that you create yourself such as if you are so passionate about politics that you talk your way into an unpaid internship with a city official and then do some solid work for them. You'd probably start out answering the phones and doing things like that. However, if you really care about what you're doing, your phone conversations will lead to your recognizing some unmet community leads and if you're creative, you'll also think of some things that could be done to meet those needs -- and you're work to accomplish that.

What I described is simply an example, one that would work for someone with interests in politics. With exception of things like Boys and Girls State and Boys and Girls Nation that students get by applying (and have to have a strong leadership background to be chosen for), no canned leadership programs impress colleges. Particularly unimpressive are the pay-big-money-and-learn-leadership programs that many are suckered into paying for.

The leadership programs that impress colleges are the ones that students create for themselves.

Academic programs: The impressive ones are free such as MITES, RSI, TASP, and are highly competitive and based on applications.

i had a super awesome time at GYLC. it's not for the timid or the shy though -- everyone there is pretty high-powered and outgoing. it was an amazing experience though! i'd do it all over again if i could.

check it out - but for your sake, not because you think colleges will like it. they have very little time to review your app, and the box where you write summer activities is very very small.

I googled all of them but I couldn't find anything, could you explain to me what they are please?

Thanks!!!
