Has anyone gotten into UC Davis or UC Irvine with a 3.1 gpa for a non-impacted major recently? I understand their average admit gpa is around 3.3, but I'm sure a few people got in with 3.1s without TAG. I've also read that the average GPA is pushed up by engineering/competitive major applicants. Thanks in advance.

My friend got waitlisted into UC-Irvine then accepted with a 2.7 GPA in U.S History
He was also accepted to Davis.

I got into UCD, UCSD, UCSB, and UCSC with a 3.3 from a private university. Since CCC are given priority, I was pretty happy with my selection.

Those admits usually have very very good softs to compensate for their low gpa, i.e. work experience, extra curriculars, upward grade trend etc.

I got accepted into UC Davis’s Animal Science major with a 2.8 GPA through TAG. But then I got rescinded because I got a D in my UC-transferable math course at the end of Spring semester.

Hey Vikram,
I just posted a thread on low GPA admits. You can check it out!

Thanks everyone. I have a semi-upward trend 2.6 when I started, to a 3.1 as of fall. I got a 3.6 with 15 units this semester that pushed me from a 2.88 to a 3.14 in one semester. I know this isn’t much but it’s something.

that sux sweet. Yea I’m in that boat. I did my own g.p.a calculation and was forgetting some classes off an old transcript, so I have a sub 3.0 and transferring in engineering.

I have an upward trend and had a 3.67 last spring, but I screwed myself since I had to drop out of my classes for fall. I will have igetc done, but not a lot of recommended classes.

I’m hoping my military experience (worked with top secret electronics for a bit) and EC’s and non traditional status will help.

What if your gpa is low but your grades don’t show an upward trend? Right now I’m at a 3.1, but when I started community college I had a 4.0 then went up and down for 2 years. Now I’m in my 3rd and at 3.1. I’m hoping I could transfer into UCD into the environmental policy analysis and planning department.

Quietdude, I think upward trends and overall GPA only matter to UCLA and UCB. but for the other UCs i think they only care about overall GPA. I’m not sure. Did you tag at davis? Is your major impacted?

Yes, I tagged to Davis but since my gpa dropped after this fall and I got a D I lost it. I still haven’t been able to get the class I got the D in for the spring, but I’m gonna try my hardest and crash it if I have to. My major isn’t impacted, and actually its pretty unknown of at Davis for the most part.

I wonder if you get a D, if you get rejected from all UCs? Your GPA is a 3.1 which isn’t bad…a D isn’t passing but I guess since you have a normal GPA for a UCD applicant, I think you’re good. Make a thread and see what others say!
