Anyone know anything about 12th street?

I was just looking through the book that came with the acceptance, and noticed there is another dorm i havent heard anything about. Twelfth street I guess it is called. Anyone know anything?

It's a new dorm! Woo. It started construction in 2006 and 2009 is the first year it will be open. =]

N.Y.U. dorm planned on E. 12th St.

"Currently under construction is an NYU freshman dorm on 12th Street and Third avenue, which is slated to open in fall 2009. "
(different article)

From wikipedia

"NYU announced plans to build a 26-floor, 190,000-square-foot (18,000 m2) residence hall on 12th Street. The residence hall is expected to accommodate about 700 undergraduates and contain a host of other student facilities. It is to be the tallest building in the East Village.[29] The plans have caused anger among East Village and other New York City residents, as the new building would be built over the old St. Ann's Church.[30]"

If it's new it must be nice. Hopefully the angry residents dont burn it down lol

I find it awfully beautiful from the outside. I think it's going to be THE BEST apartment style you can ask for as a freshmen. the distance and location is just not beatable, plus it's going to be brand new... however, on a side note, villagers have been hating this building for awhile (check curbed), and there's also the "god will strike this building with lightning etc etc" since it was built on top of the old st. anne's church. still though, the place is pretty awesome, it's across from a new school's dorm, actually

Wow is anyone willing to tell me how the dorm choosing thing works??
Do we fill out forms ? Does NYU get to decide who we're sharing rooms with?
Is there even a choice for freshmen?

after you get in and send in your deposit, you get a form where you get to choose your top 3 choices for a dorm. there's a roommate survey that's like 3 questions but really I've heard from a few people that they didn't like their roommates, even if they answered them honestly.

You can request to be a roommate with someone~

Is this dorm an option for us??

Also, dont be surprised if locals give you death looks you as you enter and leave the dorm. The people on the LES were ****ed as hell about this.

Great Location though!

Yea 12th street will be for freshman or majority for freshman.

I think U-Hall willl be a sophomore dorm next year. When I went to NYU for my interview, afterward i went to eat out with my friend and some other who go to NYU and they were talking about U-Hall might become sophomore dorm next year.

I think because 12th street will replace U-Hall for freshman. For apartment style dorm.

Not sure though

hmm... nyu didn't put 12th street as option for freshman in acceptance packet...

Did they put u-hall as an option?? Because I really want Apartment style housing next year!

that's weird the gwarner has it but hkkxp doesn't O.o.
Maybe NYU made a mistake with some packets...hmm who knows.

it says

housing for freshman
Traditional : brittany, goddard, hayden, rubin, twelfth street, weinstein

apartment - third avenue north.

ooo now i realized. 12th was under traditional.. i thought it was apartment..

Wow... There is only one apartment style dorm. I bet people will be fighting to get in there!

aw it's not apartment style =[.

If I end up going to NYU I want to get Goddard...

Hi everyone. I am a current Junior at NYU and I will be an RA at 12th Street next year. It is a brand new building, traditional freshman style. But trust me, traditional style isn't bad at all. I preferred living in a traditional style my dorm my freshman year, and it really helps with building the community. The only difference between traditional and apartment style dorms is that you don't cook your own meals, instead you have a meal plan and can eat at any of NYU's dining halls.

We don't know too much about 12th street yet, as NYU is still working on updating the housing system with all the information. You can find all this information at NYU's housing webpage (NYU > Department of Housing > homepage). Just give them a little time to finish the updates.

Congratulations to all of you going to NYU next year. You'll have a blast. If you have any questions that someone whose been at NYU for three years could answer, feel free to message me.

hi! i was interested in 12th street as a dorm, but i was just wondering what facilities it has in the dorm.

dining hall? practice rooms? stuff like that?

thanks!

what about the price of he dorm?

$11,720 per year.

http://www.nyu.edu/housing/pdfs/2009_2010Urates.pdf

Fredeka: Unfortunately, NYU is still in the process of updating the system with that information. From what I have been told, though, is that it has been built with quite of bit of extra facilities. I don't know about the dining hall, but I do know that there is a student lounge and more than likely some practice/study rooms to go along with that.

it's 12th, third ave., or Goddard for me. I would love 12th I mean it's brand new and we'll be the first to use it!
