Anyone know anything about summer leap acceptance?

My son was accepted to summer UP? What I do not understand is why if he is accepted to summer and will go also in fall then why can;t he start in the Fall? How much is it going to cost? He was suppose to work for the summer so he can help pay for college. PSU is his first choice but I do not know if I will be able to afford the summer and he is responsible for paying for 1/3 of college.

Same question for me… i got summer and would have preferred to work. I can’t find any info on costs… If he applied to a competitive major he can change his major to undecided or a less competitive major, and he will be reconsidered for fall acceptance, i was told this by a counselor when i called today…

I just found it is going to cost over $8000. UGG! No sure I can swing that.

WOW that is ridiculous, a money making scheme!!

I found this link – hope it helps.

[LEAP: Learning Edge Academic Program, University Park](http://www.leap.psu.edu/leap_faq.htm#much)

My daughter has been accepted for summer admission as well but she is thrilled as are her father and I. Admission is offered first for fall and then if you’ve checked the box wishing to do so, you are evaluated for summer admission if you’re not offered for fall admission and then you’re evaluated for alternate campuses. (Or to change your major to something less competitive).

They do this because usually those students are on that bubble for their respective majors and they’d like them to take some classes and get acclimated. But response to this program is so well-received that they allow fall admissions to attend if they request it.

I have talked to parents who have kids that have attended summer session and they said their kids said it was the best thing they ever did. They get to attend two general education (required) classes in small class sizes, they get to get the “lay of the land” before 35,000+ other students arrive for the fall. They say it’s less intimidating and a lot of fun!

In answer to the question, if he’s going to be going in the fall, why can’t he start in the fall. I feel that it’s a good way of seeing which students really want to be at University Park by attending summer. The alternative is going to a branch campus or going somewhere else.

I can understand the money issue but we’re willing to pay it for this program.

HTH
