I had never heard of this, but it sounds like a great option for some students. I don’t think the article was clear about whether they were the same program but it does sound like there is a wait list for the Housing and Food services program. OU seems to have a lot of part-time student jobs on campus that are convenient and accommodating of student schedules. My D has a campus job working as a tutor a few hours a week. The pay is decent, her schedule is arranged around her classes, no working on school breaks, and it sounds as if they have a good bit of training and development. It is certainly not going to cover housing or a meal plan, but some extra spending money is always nice.
Yes, I really wish the article addressed more about the specific programs instead of working on campus in general. Paying for room and board past freshman year is going to be our biggest challenge. I know competition for RA jobs is tough but it would be our best scenario. I’d hoped to cover some of the room and board costs with outside scholarships if, and that’s a big if, D can get them, she’ll end up giving a third of what she get to the government because of the stupid Kiddie Tax rules. A program that lets her work to earn room and board would be ideal! Most campus jobs I’ve seen listed are only about $10 an hour (you make more than that starting at our local McDonalds with no experience and no high school diploma) so finding a job working 16 hours a week that covers room and board would be wonderful!
