I went to my study abroad office and they told me they had a special relationship with the DIS (Danish Institute for Study Abroad) at the University of Copenhagen. Basically, this is classes taught in English by Copenhagen faculty in various subjects (the list is really long). It seemed like a very interesting study abroad opportunity. I was wondering if anyone has been to this program and give me some tips about it.

I don’t know anything about that program, but Copenhagen is a GREAT city. Of all the nordic cities (and D just came back from a semester in another one), Copenhagen is the one that everyone raves about the most.

I’m leaving for my semester at DIS in less than a week, and I’m thrilled! I picked DIS because I wanted to have a range of courses available to me, and I was really impressed about the way that the program folds travel into the classes (for ex. I’ll be going on a week-long field trip to Prague with my core course in European Culture & History, and another week-long field study in Iceland with my class on Vikings & Sagas). The range of housing options is also really diverse. I’m staying with a host-family (who sent me an email last week, and they sound lovely), but many students opt for Kollegiums, which are apartment buildings/dorms throughout the city with a mix of Danish and international students.

While I obviously have not been, yet, I have no qualms about recommending the program, because it’s one of the most popular programs at my college. Each semester, 5-6 students head off to DIS to study different topics, but all of them come back absolutely in love with Copenhagen. And all the admin stuff I’ve had to deal with so far has been very simple and straight-forward.

One clarification though, DIS is a separate institution from Univ. of Copenhagen. While DIS students can take some classes an the Uni, and Copenhagen students are also welcome to enroll in classes at DIS, the majority of your classes will be with other American students. This is why I opted for the host-family- so that I would have a more immersive experience.

Hope this helps! If you have any specific questions, please ask!
