We love Oberlin and my son is interested in applying as a composition major. (Not the Timara program.) He had a composition lesson there and the teacher encouraged him it might be a good school for him but my son's music is not atonal and he is not espcially interested in electronic music. A student who left the school told us that 1st year students are only allowed to write atonal music in the first year and after that this student thought they felt pressuered to continue to do so. Does anyone know if this is true?
My son is following up on this with composition teacher from Oberlin whom he met. This student was not actual in the composition program. Any thoughts? We were given a recording of recent students and it was a lot of electronic music. (Some of these students were in Timara Program.) Everything else about Oberlin in a great fit for thim. Anyone with other thoughts about where else we should consider? We have looked at a lot of schools and have a few but need to find a few more that are a good fit. Thanks.
