Im a semifinalist and just had an interview.
and it felt like it didn go as smooth as i would like it to be, proly like 7 out of 10 interview.
my scores are pretty darn good.
and my recs are pretty darn good i guess. (didn read so i dunno but they love me)
but i just wanted to know how hard it is to get president's scholarship in general.
do people who get it have amazing EC's or amazing scores or what?

So, about 700 semifinalists narrowed down to 100-120 finalists? Not good to get your hopes up, as the odds aren’t in your favor. But someone’s got to win, right?

Due to the current economic environment, it is unlikely that more than 100 people will be selected as finalists out of the 730 exceptional people chosen as Semi-Finalists. So, it is definitely very competitive. But, whatever the result, it is out of your hands at this point. You have submitted all the application materials and had your interview. Worrying about whether your interview was “good enough” isn’t going to change the outcome. Every year people who thought they would not make finalist do and other who were confident they would make Finalist do not. While scores are taken into consideration, President’s Scholars are not chosen because of their scores, but because of what they have done as people. Quality EC’s, your essay, recommendations, and of course the interview are what separates the Semi-Finalist from the Finalist, not scores. In any event, by making Semi-Finalist you have already been chosen as one of the best early applicants to Tech and that is something to be proud of.

As a personal anecdote, I didn’t like how my semi-finalist interview went either and I did make finalist.

All the Best!
