anyone know of any EXTREMELY good books?

i havent read in awhile....

i read just about everything except for science fic

i particularly enjoy books about doctors and their experiences and historical fiction...esp around the 50s...east coast scholars and their stories kinda thing...like dead poets society or mona lisa smile, u know?

any suggestions?

If you haven't already read them....Read the Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons....Dan Brown is a literary genius...also....I liked Catch-22 by Joseph Heller....but these are rather popular (angels and demons isn't that popular...cept among Brown fans)

Da Vinci and Angels are my all time favorites though.....I'm in for the mystery/suspense mixed with history type of thing....they're both fantastic....and i honestly couldn't tell you which one i liked better....read Angels first :p

Jon Krakauer - Into The Wild

You sound like you may like Girl in Hyacinth Blue- im reading that now for school and i think its quite good. Catch-22 as someone else mentioned is also very fun.

of human bondage by
w. somerset maugham

I really recommend "The Magus" by John Fowles.

East of Eden and The Grapes of Wrath are both excellent reads that some overlook. The former, I believe, is Steinbeck's greatest achievement. I actually developed an emotional attachment to the characters to the point that I was almost brought to tears in some parts. It's that good.

The Pillow Book by Sei Shonagon

Kane and Abel by Jeffrey Archer

An absolute must read.

If you like historical fiction about doctors, you need to read "Arrowsmith" by Sinclair Lewis. The opposite extreme is a darkly humorous book about hospital medicine, "House of God" by Samuel Shem.

Call Dan Brown anything but a literary genius.

Sheesh.

ooooooh man i've loved the Langdon series....he's very original, and knows how to keep you on edge....i'm a big fan of European/religous history as well as mystery and suspense....although much of the content of his novels is fictional....he has a distint way of intriguing his readers

I second the East of Eden suggestion.

If you like historical fiction then The Name of the Rose is a must read

Doctors eh? Michael Crichton wrote Five Patients: A Hospital Explained. I wasn't bad but I read it when I was too young to really follow it or be interested by it. I don't know of any other really good books involving doctors.

Robin Cook.

I recommend anything other than acceptable risk, shock, and vital signs. Chromosome 6 is probably one of his best but it isnt really about doctors - its more closely related to genetics

I STRONGLY recommend FRANKENSTEIN by Mary Shelley.
One of my all-time favorites!!!

Chaim Potok - "The Chosen"

So easy to read and so short, but very good. Not sure if you'll like it.

Well here's what i don't recommend.....Scarlet Letter, the Heart of Darkness, Wuthering Heights, and A Seperate Peace....i know i'll probably get bashed by a coupla fans, but, eh, those few just didn't appeal to me

and if you like medical stories...check out Checkov's Doctors
