Anyone know Pratt's fine arts?

I just got accepted and it is where i have wanted to go. i am a fine arts major. Does anyone know anything about it? I looked at all the classes and it looks great, but i just found out that most students aren't fine arts majors, which is fine, but does anyone have anymore information?

Hi, I got accepted too, to the bfa program, and its one of my higher choices. I visited back in the fall, and know some people that go there currently, but what all do you want to know?

Well I have heard that Pratt only has 8% majoring in fine art, so i wasn’t sure how good the program is. i also know that most of the programs are world renowned, and i know the fine arts isn’t. I mean, not that that is a problem, i jsut really wanted to know how good it is. What is it like? Do people like it? Just anything haha.

The people I know are relatively happy there, I heard it was a lot of hard work, a lot of all nighters and time spent devoted to working. I heard the teachers were pretty good, but its what you put into it, you will get out. There by no means a terrible school for fine arts, just not everybody, or a majority of everybody, focuses on it like a traditional art school. Im pretty sure the number of people who major in fine art is a bit higher than 8% too. Pratt is one of the largest art schools too, so having a percentage of students majoring in fine arts makes the department comparable to that of a smaller art school, among terms of number of students, variety of classes offered, etc. When I was touring the campus, it was really unique which made me fall in love with it. Its set up like a traditional university, big grassy area in the middle, all the building grouped in one area, and had a really nice feel to it. You didnt even know you were in brooklyn until you left the gates. I thought that was really special, and its something you’re not going to find anywhere else really.

Thank you so much! i really appreciate your input. What are the people like?

Theres a bunch of international students, a lot of asians, just at pretty much any art school, but they’re wonderful! But mainly there are a lot of ‘Hipsters’ and pretty chill people. Very few 'Preppy" people, but everyone was really really nice from who I saw and met. Even the non fine arts kids are really artsy, and it has a pretty typical art school environment.

Sounds great. I was also wondering if Pratt gives their fine arts students their own studio space?

you know, I actually have no idea. If I attend pratt, i’d be majoring in jewelry, and its pretty pointless for a jewelry major to have their own studio so I never asked any questions about those at all. Sorry!

Hi, sorry to interupt the flow!
But I’ve had some trouble looking into Pratt…
Mind if I ask a couple questions?

I’m thinking of getting into Photography, is Pratt difficult to get into?

Pratt has around a 40% acceptance rate. It is rated as one of the best art and design schools in the country. That said, there are probably easier programs to get into than others. For example, interior design and architecture are top notch, so getting into those programs are probably more selective.
I haven’t really heard much about how selective their photography program is or too much about it in general, but i do know that they are much more fine artsy than commercial. So, much more about the art of photography than, yeah, commerical, haha.

Do you know of they help you with internships? Like, will they help you get into that particular field?

Well, Pratt is in a very convenient location… NY! What i have heard they are good with internships. I think most of the faculty (if not all) have a job or company outside of teaching. However, i have never directly heard if they are good with internships.
