I've heard SB and SD are getting WAY more competitive and this concerns me

i'd like to know this too.

just nkow u have to hit 7530. play the points to ur advantage. make sure u haev 200+ hours of volunteer service so u get 300 poitns instead of only getting 150 if u did 100-199. If there was a significant event in ur life i.e. death of ANYONE in soph/juinor year or mayb ea drop in income or anything mention it so you get points in that. Mention random leaderships in clubs etc etc just accrue as many points from different things as u can

umm... pardon?

Flong is announcing the new point cutoff for admissions and also suggesting that people make sure they get all the points they deserve by including all relevant information in their applications.

yeah u were talking about how u were concerned with the influx of applicants/falling of acceptance rate and its simple: dont forget any points u can get. my friend was 200 poitns off admission and he gma died before he took the SAT's. had he written about that instead of playing tennis, he would have been admitted. So remember, every point matters so instead of worrying about percentages, worry about using up all the resources u have effectively so u can break the 7500 mark

wait, he died?

haha.
he meant his grandma died.

Even though its reality nowadays for a lot of schools, this whole "tactics to get into college" is kinda unsettling...

well it is. there was this huge NY times article about how applicants have the pressures of getting good grades, taking hard classes, being an athlete, scoring well on the sat, do an amazing exc and trying to be social just to get into college.

I think the new acceptance rate is something like 46%, or what-not, for UCSD...

according to the local newspaper, it's 37%. it was 20% for cal/ucla, and around 50% for davis, irvine, sb, fyi

20% for UCLA and Cal. Ouch...

it's a huge drop for all the UCs.

I thought it was much, much less for all of those schools. o_O 4700 out of 50000+ students applying to UCLA were accepted, so that'd be closer to 10% acceptance. UCSD was 4100 out of 45000 or so.

^ I wish people would stop giving those incorrect statistics. Thats the number of students who matriculate.

yea seriously....use your head people...

No need to be so rude. o_O

this is for TRANSFER (directly from the acceptance PDF thing)

"Q: How many applications did UCSD receive, and how
many students were admitted?
UCSD received approximately 8,700 transfer applications for Fall 2007
with an enrollment goal of approximately 1,600. Enrollment goals are
established annually. The campus does not select students on the basis
of academic major or choice of UCSD undergraduate college."

When it comes to acceptance rates, there are three numbers you need to be aware of: the number of applications a college receives, the number of applicants who are offered admissions, and the number of students who enroll.

To determine the acceptance rate, you would divide the number of students who are offered admissions by the total number of applications received.

These would be the transfer admission stats for 2006, courtesy of ucsd.edu:

Transfers applied: 9825
Transfers admitted: 4284
Acceptance rate: 49.1%
Transfers enrolled: 1325
