I am currently a junior at a public high school and wish to attend Lehigh University. I'm a little worried =P and would like to know how good of a chance you all think i've got to get in.
Here are my stats:
GPA: Top 20% 3.82 Weighted / 3.6 Unweighted (competitive high school)
Also, in all accelerated classes, AP english, AP Calc. AP economics
SAT: 680 Critical Reading / 710 Math / 680 Writing
taking SAT II's math and literature
EC:
3 varsity sports, 2 years tennis, 2 years cross country, 4 years swimming
German club, Student movement against cancer etc..
Volunteer at a soup kitchen through my church once a week, went to Alaska and Guatemala with Habitat for Humanity over summer to help construct homes for kids.
Been playing piano since 3rd grade, hope to minor in music

Alumni etc..
Grandpa and two aunts attended, grandfather donated $25,000+ to Lehigh.

I've also made sure to visit once or twice to express interest (and just cause i like the campus)
Thanks everyone for whatever input you have!

I think you have a decent shot...especially with the family alumni. Make sure you apply as early as you can. If financial aid is not a factor, do ED. Otherwise, apply as soon as you can for the regular deadline. My son was accepted for fall 2008 (and is attending) but his friend with very similar (if not better in some areas) stats was wait listed. I believe his friend applied towards the end of the regular decision deadline.(That is the only thing I can think of as to why his friend was wait listed).
Good luck!

I had similar SATs, a 3.85 gpa unweighed at a very competitive high school, sports, hundreds of hours volunteering, expressed interest (visited twice) and i worked 20 hrs a week and got waitlisted (and not accepted off the waitlist)

I guess it depends how competitive it is next year so it could go either way but the grandfather donating money is definitely a plus. The other alumni will help alittle but I don't think it'll get you in (my friend had alot of alumni connections and got waitlisted also)

If you are interested in playing any of your sports in college, make sure you contact that coach. I can't remember what the starting date for a coach to contact you, but you can always contact the coach. Another way for a coach to see you is to attend that coach's camp over the summer. A coach who wants you is a plus.

Lehigh gets a big chunk of its freshman class from ED 1. Bonmar is correct. Apply ED 1 if money isn't a factor.

Other than that, you look like a typical Lehigh student.

alright thanks everybody for the suggestions. I am planning on applying ED 1 though im not sure what im going to do concerning sports. I think i want to play tennis in college but ill need to look into that. Also, took the SAT's again and now have 680 CR, 750 Math and 740 Writing. (2170/2400. 1430/1600) not much of a difference but hey, anything helps...

I think you have a pretty good chance at getting in, seeing as you have the AP Classes, and volunteer, and got such great scores on your SAT, congratulations by the way. So just keep working hard, and you'll def. get in. I'm going in this fall and I had a 650, 600, 580 score and a 28 average ACT score and got in. I was in a good number of clubs and had a 3.5 average GPA, so don't fret, you'll do fine.
