Can’t find anything older than 1986 but you could always contact these sellers and ask them to keep an eye out for an older one:
If this link is not active [CC does not always approve], email me [my user name is a gmail address] and I’ll send it to you.
Thanks - it works…
And why do you want one? Are you writing a novel? If so, let us know when it comes out. Cheers.
Just took a peek at Better World Books, but they have nothing earlier than 1986. You can check back there as well.
Do you want to hear a funny story?
A bit of nostalgia I imagine. Also I’m reconstructing how my son ended up choosing to attend Knox College in Illinois. He’ll be a Freshman there in the Fall
When I was looking at colleges in the 1980’s, I think I remember reading in the Insider’s Guide about Bates College (where I ended up attending) that it really belonged to the “select cadre of Midwestern liberal arts colleges” like Knox, Antioch, Kenyon except that it was located in Maine.
Fast forward to the Fall of 2018 and my son asks for my help in putting together a college list. We used the Princeton Review site as a starting point (since we were using them for SAT prep) to compile a list with some schools we knew about and some that the PR were recommending. Somehow I saw Knox College on one of their recommend lists and that phrase about Knox being something like Bates returned to me from, what I think, was the 1982 edition of the Insider’s guide. I suggested he throw it on his provisional list. My son said, “I’m not going to college in Illinois” (we live in NYC), I said “trust me” it’s probably a good school, you can always take it off your list before you put it on the Common App.
A few months later, after he’s gotten his second set of SAT results and narrowing down his list looking at the scatter plot graphs, it seems Knox is a viable option. As his list makes it on to the Common App, Knox almost got taken off because it’s in Illinois, but I suggested, “Hey you never know, it looks interesting enough”. In my mind it was also a long shot.
He applied to Knox after all. He was accepted with a very generous offer and it made it to his top 4. He attended 4 accepted student overnights. I visited Knox with him and it was really down to Knox and Allegheny College in PA (also a very generous offer). As we were on the Knox bus from Chicago driving through the cornfields to Galesburg, Illinois I thought, “Nah…he’s never going here”. When we got there, his conversations with the professors were quite inspiring, he found the students really friendly, he liked the campus, the food and the suite style living in the dorm. To my surprise, he chose Knox. I’m kinda bummed he’s traveling so far to go to school, but, hey it’s mostly my fault.
So I’m curious to see exactly what that line was in that version of the Insider’s guide about comparing Bates to Midwestern Colleges.
