What is Grinnell famous for? Whatever is okay, not limited on academics.

Endowment. Buildings designed by world famous architects. Men's basketball team unique style of play. Being in Iowa. Go west young man. Rigorous academics.

The kids don't take themselves too seriously. It's a very socially accepting place. Work hard--play hard. The new student center is wonderful!

I have heard that the foreign languages such as French, Japanese in Grinnell are very well. Is it true?

YES
Foreign languages here are pretty tough, but better than sliding by like in high school, right?
Some people think of it as a hippie place, it can be, but it's pretty interesting.

Unlike most of the northeastern liberal arts colleges, it has a non-preppy, egalitarian, slightly self-effacing vibe. That mid-western modesty and understatement seems to be very much a part of the culture still. And yes, the facilities were AMAZING-that huge endowment is being put to obvious use.

Some more things I thought of
It's well known for its high international student population 13%, 15% in 2011 class
Self-governance
A good portion of the students go into philanthropy after graduating, some continue it as a career.

sw717 Could you tell me what are the students who go into philanthropy after graduating majored in Grinnell? Thanks.

people from just about any major go into philanthropy - antro, soc, psychology, many of the sciences, too. it's very characteristic for Grinnell, indeed.

ALSO:
- yep, there are a lot in intntl students (mostly from asia)
- bio, econ, cs, physics, arts departments are really good
- it's awesome that you can choose your classes and there are very few restrictions imposed by requirements
- tons of clubs
- sports are not extremely competitive, so just about anyone can make it on the varsity teams
- good alumni network for internships
- tons of study abroad programs to choose from (i am doing one right now)
