Anyone live in Jester?

if you do or did can you tell me a little about it? (rooms, bathrooms, social life, easy to study?) i've heard some bad things about it but then when i talk to people who go to UT they all recommended living in Jester for my first year even though some of them didnt live in Jester. so i'm confused haha

Jester is divided into two areas, East and West. I'm currently living in Jester East. There is practically no difference between East and West besides the fact that West bathrooms have an extra curtain on their showers (providing a type of changing room). Every room has a sink and a pull-out/push-in bed. The rooms are actually very big, and I have never come close to filling up the storage space they provide, but I do not have many things.

Everyone who has visited me and has experience with dorms in other universities seems to tell me how I am much better off than their kids are because <insert complaint="" about="" size="" or="" 3+="" people="" living="" in="" a="" room="" here="">. My only true complaint about the room is the fact that the desks are VERY small. It takes practice being able to have a laptop, a book, and a piece of paper on the desk all at one time. Other dorms like San Jac have HUGE desks. My friends can have 60 inch TV's and all of their books on their desks, and they still have half of the space left.</insert>

I live on the 9th floor out of 10, and I very rarely have to wait longer than a minute for an elevator. Specific locations throughout the dorm inexplicably smell like ****. Nobody knows why, but it just doesn't go away. It's really not that bad, because the rooms (and most other areas) smell fine. The floors are cleaned often (and if you sleep past 10, every few days you will be woken up by the lovely sound of a vacuum for a period of 3-4 minutes). The bathrooms are cleaned once a day, and if you are lucky, they will not become filthy over the weekends, because it is rare that they are cleaned on Saturday/Sunday.

I do all of my studying in my room, but my roommate is usually quiet and I own a good pair of headphones to drown out the noise. There are also study lounges that remain pretty quiet on each wing of the floor. I have never found it necessary, but there is a large library directly across the street if you cannot seem to study in your room.

In terms of social life, I am good friends with half of my floor and I don't know the other half. It just worked out that way. It is very easy to meet people, and is probably the best dorm in terms of the social scene. There is a courtyard separating East and West, and there is usually something going on down there. People play dodgeball and soccer, and other events/parties are held there also.

If you don't consider money a factor, San Jac has private bathrooms and always has that clean hospital smell. It has a social scene, but nothing compared to Jester. It has much nicer rooms and study lounges. Jester is just Jester. It's a pretty good place to live. It's close to everything you need and you will probably have a lot more fun at Jester than anywhere else. (Most) of the horror stories you hear about it are exaggerated...but still.

Well I think I have some idea about the smell. Let's just say there were a few times that alcohol was involved and they had "too much to drink", and not because it was alcohol they were drinking if you get my drift.
