Anyone, longboarding?

I just ordered mine two days ago and I'll prolly get em next week..

I used to skate so I don't think falling down won't be a matter

Prolly use it for transportation

Anyone else gonna get a longboard instead of bikes?

because longboards are COOLER!!!

teach me! (char)

ahh for a second I thought you were talking about surfboards (longboards vs. shortboards)...which neither will help you in getting around CAMPUS haha

Just to let you know, it's really hilly there and I think it's somewhat difficult to bike or skateboard.

i can't bike or skate board so i will have to be carried around campus

I'm sure someone will like to carry you :D

Hopefully, I'll able to get aroudn with a longboard though, poeple seemed to be ignoring the no skateboarding/biking signs in various parts of school

longboards are awesome on hills. i have 2. One arbor pintail and one insect GS. im probably gonna bring my GS cuz the pintail is way to heavy and big to lug around

eucicycle it seems like you're really into longskating.. I've ridden an insect GS of a guy I know one day on a garage sesh.. super fun board.

I myself just have a S9 bamboo 37" - I'm more into sliding and such.. pendys, standups, you know (I ALMOST have the one-hand 360 down)

It is pretty hilly, but if you have the skill, there are some super-fun hills both on campus and around la jolla. Skateboards > Bikes because you don't need to lock em up.

Skateboards > Bikes because you don't need to lock em up.

I second that!

I'm waiting for my gravity 47'' hyper carve... hoping to have fun during summer and bring it to UCSD. I used to skate so I hope there isn't much difference from shortboard.

I am actaully considering bringing a scooter

Oh, I saw one person riding a scooter among the masses

great, now there will be 2

senson, how u gona lug around 47 inch board to class? that's pretty damn big.

I'll try to carry it arround and if it's too bulky,, i guess I'll just get a smaller deck.. -_-;

when i visited the campus i saw several longboards

they all seemed like nerds who wanted to be cool.

but yeah, im going to bring mine
i hear lajolla has some great spots

my town has a gigantic residential hill

i'm sure i can find many spots to practice carving

ckpcw, did you make your own gloves for sliding?

Yep.. I've had a couple different revisions too.
All are based off Ace Hardware leather work gloves..

Rev.1: Blowtorch Method. Jigsawed out pieces of cutting board (polyethylene), heated the back with a propane torch, and stuck em on there. Wore out pretty quick.

Rev.2: Used industrial strength Velcro (VERY strong) to make the pucks replaceable. Still used cutting boards. Pucks again wore out quickly.

Rev.3: Used same gloves and velcro concept as Rev2, but used Polycarbonate for the pucks. The stuff slides great and is SUPER durable. I mean this stuff is seriously tough.

You into sliding?

oh, i made my gloves with the first method. i dont really like sliding cuz it screws up my wheels. How hard are your wheels? my wheels are pretty soft 78a. I've got a set of gumballs that are 80a i think, but they raise my board up too high.

i think im gonna stick with soft wheels when i go to sd, so i wont feel as many bumps when i ride.

I'm riding Abec11 NoSkoolz 88a and I really love em.. Soft enough that your feet don't go numb, grippy enough for some medium carves, durable enough for some nice slides.

Back when my buddy and I learned to slide, we each wore 2 sets of stock 78a's down to their cores in a matter of 3-ish weeks :D

I semi-want to get another board with some soft wheels and maybe some Randall trucks for carving.. mine sometimes slips out on garage runs and aggressive carves.
