I am going to major in MIS at University of Arizona in the fall. Most people don't discuss this major, so I was wondering if anyone is considering it. It seems like the perfect blend of computers and business while leading to a lucrative career.

Yeah, it's a cool business major that could get you a good position into a tech company or consulting firm. But I would say a lot do something like computer science or engineering instead. People are still into finance/Wall Street matters, but IT is supposed to be the hottest field in consulting today.

I wonder why more don't choose MIS or CIS over computer science? I think it fits neither in business nor engineering which might also be a turnoff for some.

Probably because an undergrad MIS/CIs program doesn't exist at many schools. For example, none of HYPSMC have a MIS/CIS undergraduate major. Some, like Harvard, offer it at the graduate level, but not undergrad. Some, like MIT, offer MIS as a concentration within an undergrad management degree.

U of Arizona is one of the top schools that has the major at least according to usnews. I too am surprised there isn't more general interest. The curriculum itself is generally regarded as not as difficult as CS but its quite interesting.

My son just graduated with IS degree (not called MIS at his school) which he doubled with CS. Getting a job was not a problem. The IS grads are mainly consulting or working for large corps or investment banks. He didn't know about it at all when he started at his U, became interested through others who were in the major.
