hi, i have a 3.1 unweighted gpa and a 27 from a top public school in illinois. I applied to osu in AUGUST, app completed sept. 10, 2009, 12 weeks goes by so i call and they’re like “oh you will for sure know by christmas” so i patiently wait the extra few weeks until the 25th, when i checked on the 26th…nothing at all…then i called back a few days later and they were finally like “look we really don’t know when your gonna hear back…sorry” and hung up the phone, ive now waited around 15 weeks to never hear back hahaha

they basically told me the same thing! i called at like 12 weeks and they said it has only been 11 im like (i didnt say this but…) how the hll do you count cause i go 1,2,3,4… Anyway a week goes by I call again and they said the 8-12 weeks goes by and theyre like “it’s more like a guideline” (yea, i call bull***). They then told me I would hear by christmas and it’s now Jan 3 and I absolutely hate the word evaluation. Right on… Kp33, I have a 3.8 and a 25 and im instate. So im ready for the worst.

Yeah, I’ve finally come to the decision that I’ll be totally happy at my number 2 school and I’m preparing for the worst. Although I really really REALLY want to go to OSU, this waiting has prepared me for the worst.

good for you leanamass, im a little more worried cause im not so sure about my back-ups. One you have to go five years (got in), the other is not ranked very well but nonetheless i really like the school (waiting), and my dream school and ranked very high is OOS so tuition is rediculous (got in as well)

what are those schools sd? if you care to share

Is purdue the 5 year one? My brother went there and was there for 5 years haha. And tuition there is ridiculous I know; my dad wasn’t too happy about it.
my #2 school is REALLY expensive, like 40k a year without scholarships, so I think my dad is pulling for osu haha

university of cincy is the 5 year one (mandatory co-op) it has a decent rep in ohio at least but im not a big fan of the modernness of the campus and idk it just doesnt seem right if you know what i mean. miami university is the other and i really like it but im just not so sure of the opportunities beyond it. Purdue is the last but its 37k a year and im not sure an undergrad degree (even from purdue) is worth 130 thousand. Thats why im really pulling for osu.

oh and theyre all for engineering btw

yeah i’m from ohio as well. as for uc yeah that modern campus is kind of goofy and the surrounding area is really dangerous. i agree with what you said about miami b/c their engineering isn’t developed and is weak. i got into purdue also and yeah that tuition is a killer. i’d think that we’ll get into ohio state if we got into purdue

yea id hope so but you never know at least for me anyway. i was a legacy at purdue so i think that gave a little edge. im just really hopin for osu.

where else did you apply, i only did those four; my plan was to stick with a decent state school and then do as well as i can go somewhere different for grad assuming i like engineering and want to continue.

purdue, uiuc, ohio state, ou, ud. in everywhere except ohio state and ud. i’ll know ud by jan 15 and god knows when for ohio state

All good schools. And this might just be me trying to boost my confidence, but I’m thinking if I got into Butler, I should get into OSU. Just like you guys and Purdue. They’re all such good schools, I don’t see how we could get denied. Especially since we’re all in state. I also applied to Bowling Green and got in, and OU. OU lost my transcript and said they wanted me to wait until the semester to re-send it haha.

congrats to both of you! all great schools

@ einstein, I thought about throwing an app to UIUC (most likely wouldnt get in) or Penn State (I figure about the same as OSU or Purdue) but I couldnt give myself a good of reason to spend the app money because if I was going to out of state it was going to be Purdue and UIUC is crazy with OOS tuition. I also was going to apply to ud (legacy too if they count grad school, but after automatic scholarships it was still gonna be few thousand more than a state school and I think I like the state schools better). My reasoning with OU was that I thought OU and Miami were just about equal and I liked Miami better so if it came down to those two it was gonna be Miami so why even apply. I assume you engineering right I think youve posted that and because of the kind of schools youve listed? ahaha about osu, same here i guess and if I hear nothing by wednesday im gonna try and get in contact with someone other than the basic admission office secretary. I know they have a lot of apps but if im waiting cause im gonna get denied let me know now so I can continue with other schools. Im kind of at a stand still until osu. Im still trying to make purdue work without to much trouble by not living in dorm and in off campus housing.

@ leanamass, What is your planned major? I would reassure with the Butler thing but I honestly know absolutely nothing about Butler other than it is in Indiana haha. And for the OU thing, are you still eligible for the gateway scholarships, those look like pretty good deal (not for me at least, would only be getting like a 500 or a 1000, but still…). There are always 2 to 3 that go to BGSU from my school, some like it and others dont, i think it’s hit or miss. I never got into it when I went on a visit with my older brother so I never looked into it, plus i think it’s like a 3 2 program with engineering (i may be mistaken).

hopefully they just wanted to get the honors and scholars out of the way (unless you all will be in one of those, if thats the case, my bad, but dont worry cause that way you know your in haha).

Good luck to both of you

wow such a long post, sorry

Psychology. OSU is ranked 9th in the country, so that’s why I really want to go there. Butler still has a good psych program, but still…haha. I think I’m still good for the scholarships, but I honestly don’t know. I’m not all that interested anymore. I do like it a lot more than BG though. I have one brother at OU now, and I visit a lot so I know the campus well and I do love it there, but really, going to OU for anything but Scripps (why my brother is there) is kind of pointless unless you just want to party. BG was just a super safety (sooo easy to get in. Like a 2.5 GPA and 19 ACT or something ridiculous like that). I just feel like it’s so bland. I’d rather be in an Urban area or a place with a good college town like OU. But anyways! I’m rambling.

There’s a lot of off campus housing at Purdue. My brother lived in a studio apartment for a couple years there. It’s wasn’t the nicest place ever (his bathroom was literally bigger than the bedroom/living room. Not even kidding), but it got the job done and saved some money.

As for Miami, maybe it’s because I live semi-close to campus and I kind of want to get away from West Chester(haha), but I’ve never been a big fan of Miami. I just kind of get a weird vibe every time I have to visit campus. I don’t know. I just don’t think I’d be very comfortable there. I have no real reasoning behind it other than I think my mom would come and visit me at least once a week (AHHHHHH! Haha.).

Ahh psych… you seemed like that artsy type lol jk

Oh yeah I know what you mean about miami, (im assuming youre a girl based on leana?) and i dont know if this applies hear or not but ive heard a lot girls are intimidated by the preppy girls there (again, just something that ive heard). I think miami’s like bg in the fact it is a hit or a miss. If youre from westchester your only about an hour from me, anyway, wright state (super super safety, like a 18 on the act and a diploma will get you in) is where everyone goes from my crappy high school so I was determined not to even apply there cause I did not want to have any chance of me even thinking about that (not that its a bad school, good connections with the WPAFB) so I did even apply to a super safety, especially with engineering as a major (3.8 and a 25), but I figured it was good enough for uc and that was ok with me so w/e, im just stoked i got into purdue. Im rambling tooo

Anyway yea im am seriously looking in to their co-op housing and internship/co-op programs. If all goes right and I get into a house (there’s like 5 men houses) and I get into their internship/co-op program i could get through for about the same price as an instate school with saving about 4 grand on housing and roughly 45k on co-op and maybe 20k on the internship side.

Back on miami, i love that atmosphere, that hey i go to miami, im better than you and there campus is great, love the red brick buildings (same for Purdue, tho less “ivy” like)

East or West? (being a former East kid, I have to know…)

Are you in Band? Cheerleader? On the Spark newspaper or Academic Team?

Anyways, if you are at East and do any of these things, I know a LOT of your friends, and maybe even you. Please shoot me a PM sometime
Even if you go to West, I still know a fair amount of people there and maybe we have some common friends! How cool :)

Also got the same weird vibe from Miami. My parents are pigeon-holing me into the school like none other, and I HATE it! (except the Honors program). Horrible place. Some idiot chick who was way under 21 was chugging beer from a funnel as one of her friends propped it up for her, we parked right next to the house, and my parents did not say a word. They even cotinued to ramble on about how drinking was not a problem after seeing this event.

Later that day, we went to U Dayton on the way home to see the school on a Saturday Night, and my parents completely flipped out when a really old-looking student was walking up Brown St. with a six-pack of beer. W T F?

So, yeah, Miami isn’t my cup of tea, either. The vibe is kinda weird, like Stepford-Wife-ish, and all I ever hear students talking about when I am there is sex, drugs and alcohol (Since my parents psycho-want me to go there, I have spent an incredible amount of time on campus. I have never once heard an academic conversation…).

Anyways, good luck with OSU, leanamass!!! Hope to get a PM from you soon :)

Eh, I don’t really feel all that intimidated by preppy girls haha. I have a couple friends who go there and say that Miami is kinda clique-y, and quite frankly I’m trying to LEAVE high school haha.

I’d say most people from my school go to UC. UC looooves Lakota kids because we live so close that we can commute so they have more room in their dorms. I’ve seriously never heard of a kid in Lakota being denied into UC. Maybe into DAAP, but not the actual university.

My mom went to Wright State! But back when she went, the campus was only 4 buildings, and I know it’s grown quite a bit since then.

Maybe we’ll all get into OSU then we can all be friends!
Haha. Especially since OHKID and I may be friends but don’t realize it!

OHKID I think I sent a PM, but I don’t know if it went through?

^Yes, it went through.

Thanks for sending a PM :). I sent one back a minute ago.

Sorry about the late response…

I’m annoyed that I haven’t heard back from OSU yet. Applied November 5th or so and all of my friends have gotten in within a month of their application (in one case, ten days). Got a 31 ACT, 3.7, and am in-state…sort of expecting to get denied from honors because of the GPA. Weak.

i feel your pain. in state 31 act 3.85 uw gpa and everything received last week of october. i’m ****ed
