Anyone "not a party freak" and going to UCSB?

haha, it is true that college will be very different from highschool i don't know how i'll end up, i guess we'll see

my d is accepted into pre-med honors do they have special halls for these students that like to study and not party. She is okay with partying but she doesn't drink and would like a roomie that is the same?

Yes, languages1 there are.

I've been looking into them, there's a floor that is STRICTLY STUDYING - no noise etc... theres another floor that is substance-free.

They are called Special interest floors or something like that. But you should reserve 'em soon because there are limited spots available.

I'm not a partyer and I've convinced myself that, if I do choose to go to UCSB, the partying reputation will not affect me too much. My high school was considered the party school in my junior high, but I went there despite that because it was where I felt most comfortable and happiest, as hallmark as that sounds. Many of the people in my class do party, but I have made friends that don't, so I have been able to stay away from all of it. I realize that in college that may be hard because it's bound to be closer, but I think that partying can be avoided.

m1234, you asked why we don't like to party. Well, for me at least...I'm very fond of my brain cells. I don't want to lose them by drinking, which you don't have to do at parties, but it is usually the only way to have fun because everyone else is doing it. I understand drinking is a way to destress and escape the world for a while, but it doesn't sound like too much fun the next morning, and I would rather get a laughter or sugar buzz with my friends than an alcoholic one. I know I sound cheesy and old-fashioned, but that is my reasoning.

HAHAAH........you sound exactly like me and the rest of the CC people last year on this forum when they decided that they're going to UCSB. "I can have fun without drinking and partying," "There's so many ways to have fun besides partying." After the first week of school on a friday night, I was drunk off my ass stumbling down DP punching cars and doors. Yea it was a fun/bad night. But hey, I learned how to controlled myself since then and dedicated more of my time to my school work. Most if not all of the incoming freshmen next year will find themselves having to balance between academic and social life here. UCSB is unique among the UC is that not only you have to fight off the academic pressures but also the social pressures due to the evironment here, especially in Isla Vista. It's a place where I would described as a society within a society or a better phrase "A microcosm of America's worse and best."

DP is bomb. Besides, having tolerances built up in college helps in business. You can close a deal while the other guys annihilated. lol

Better bring earplugs to study, lol.

"After the first week of school on a friday night, I was drunk off my ass stumbling down DP punching cars and doors."

LOL that's hilarious. I love these UCSB stories.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to UCSB (Turning down UCSD, UCDavis, UCI, and BU) and I'm not into partying like AT ALL, which is one of the biggest cons on my list. I think the fact that I would like to keep my brain cells as wel and hate the taste of alcohol helps :D But from what I hear, there are in fact a lot of people like me at UCSB, it just takes a little more effort to find. Anyways, I'm really excited to attend UCSB and to hopefully see you all in the fall as well!
