Anyone NOT get any scholarships?

I'm sort of middle to upper Middle class if that makes sense, yet I did not apply the merit scholarships (missed deadline), and applied to FAFSA about a month ago. For other schools, I received only grants, etc.

Anyway, at my school it seems as though everyone who is going to USC next fall received some sort of free money, except me. I visited USC at one of the explore USC programs, and I LOVED it, and I already submitted my enrollment deposit. However, I can't help but notice the feeling that I'm getting the short end of the stick. I mean, is it really worth it?

Anyway, is anyone out there in the same situation I'm in?
( not that it matters, only to make me feel better :p )

yea, im in a similar situation. when i was a kid my grandma put a bunch of money away in a college account, and these days its around $70k. the problem is that its in my name. so after applying for financial aid my assets basically disqualified me from everything i applied to. i didnt really know about merit scholarships either, just applied for the standard FAFSA and all that. im transfering so i should only be about 10-20 thousand in debt after usc(if i get in). i'll probably convince some family member to spot the rest till i get a job.

but yea, i feel like im gettin the short end of the stick as well. are you going in as a fresh, soph, or junior?

Hey, don't worry. I'm getting absolutely nothing from USC.

You might be feeling intimidated here on CC, but there are a LOT more students going to USC than those you meet here on CC, and many of those are in the same boat as us.

I'm going to be a freshman this fall. NO scholarship. NO financial aid. I am just a financially-stable, only-somewhat-intelligent kid.

Hence, NO $.

I'm applying to a lot of scholarships. But it's going to be tough on my family.

:/

Best wishes. There are a lot of (upper) middle-class kids at USC that are smart enough to get in but deemed not qualified enough for any scholarships.

I think you'll make lots of money after graduation :)

Same here. Money set aside for extenuating Medical circumstances raised the FAHSA so we got nothing. The odd thing was NYU film who is supposedly known to be stingy with merit gave my son a small amount but of course USC is his first choice. We have saved enough to pay for the first year, after that, well I just hope he qualifies for something, maybe an RA.

yea, same boat here, no merit scholarships at all. But got generous grants so I think I can still make it through.

what do u consider upper/middle class?

i got no merit scholarships and didnt apply for financial aid...(I applied by the scholarship deadline)...

im seriously wondering why the heck i didnt get any.

Thanks for all the responses...

I'm going in as a freshman, btw

also, i just made up an estimate as to what financial category i fall under (e.g. middle class). I basically meant that I am neither poorer nor much richer than most people I encounter on a daily basis.

damn, thats around $170,000. thats an insane amount of money for college. i'd transfer before dropping an extra 85 grand. but if its your parents money i suppose its taken care of.

Not a penny...zero, zip nada...My daughter just finished her freshman year. Next year...we are going to charge the tuition on our mileage card. At least we can buy 1 ticket to Maui for the cost of one year's tuition.
