I was accepted to Rutgers at around the end of January, and I have not received any word about a scholarship offer yet. However, I got an initial financial aid offer for a loan last week? Does this mean I'm not getting any merit scholarships, which is kinda weird since I've been getting offers for full rides at other places such as UMD.

What are your SAT scores and GPA/rank in class??

Scholarship info can be found here: http://admissions.rutgers.edu/080101.asp

GPA 3.92 unweighted, 4.56 weighted
SAT: 2180 total - 800 cr/710 math/670 writing
My county doesnt do class rank, but Im definitely top 5%.

Hmm, the website does say April 15, so maybe mine is just coming really late.

Give admissions a call... you should have heard by now and you don't want to get screwed... when did you submit your application?

My DS was awarded a merit scholarship by Rutgers - it did not come automatically, I called and then they consdiered him - his high school did not rank so he fell in between teh cracks - give them a call if you think you are eligible

You should be applicable for a Presidential Scholarship because you have a combined 1500 CR&M. Although under the scholarship it says that they usually requires top 5% as well, let them know your school county doesn't have class ranks but if they did you would be a top 5%.

I applied at the middle of January, got accepted about a week later. Kinda late I know, but I still think I should have at least gotten a small one.

Have your guidance counselor fax in something stating your ranking situation - hopefully she/he will state that you aren't assigned a specific # rank but that you fall within the top 5% (if that's the case). I don't think it will help you to simply state that your school doesn't rank. Last yr, deserving kids did not receive scholarships because their schools didn't rank. That is a criteria for RU.

They sent my son's counselor a letter asking her to provide an approximate rank (even though his school doesn't rank). I left it to her discretion, never asked to see the letter, but he got a $5000 per year scholarship.

Our school does not rank either. Apparently if a college offers a merit award based on rank, they will contact the high school requesting the rank of the student in question. At that time the school is obligated to respond to the inquiry.

DS was accepted to Rutger's in November (he is a freshman there now), and did not get his scholarship offer until February. Calling will not hurt -- soon enough it will be decision time for you!

Good Luck!
