Well, after being under the impression that I would be recieving a new laptop, and setting my sights on a pimped out Dell 9300, turns out I have to take my dads 3 year old laptop. Lame. Even though no one cares, I had to get this off my chest.

just be glad it's A computer... I knew unfortunate souls that had to stand in line at the computer labs to type up essays.
(and I didn't get a new computer when I was a freshman... I had my own desktop computer for most of high school and got to continue using it in the dorms)

a 3 yr. old LapTop isn’t that bad, i used to use a 6+ yr. one strictly for typing essay for sheer speed as LapTop keyboards make me type faster…it had like 40 MB on the entire C: drive :)

Wow I type so much slower on laptop keyboards. The keys are too close together or something, even though I have a full-sized keyboard on mine. And I always accidentally hit the capslock.

i had a choice of either going to cancun for a week withi a bunch of friends or getting a new laptop as a graduation present. needless to say, i'll be using my old desktop at school.

I will be using the same laptop that I've been using for two years.

I saved up all summer from my job to get my own computer.

Don't fret about it. I've been mooching off my parents computers for a while after mine broke and because I didn't want to buy a new one. I'm so frivolous yet I HATE to spend money.

let’s trade! :D

I'm using my dad's 4 yr old labtop, so you're not the only one. He bought more memory and a bunch of other add-ons, so it's not so bad and he's going to install the new version of Linux before I leave so I figure I'll be ok. Unless you're a computer science or film major or something, you really don't need a fancy labtop. Most of it is going to be going online and typing up notes/papers, anyways.

Yep. I bot an old laptop for $433 with a sucky battery. but its a computer and it works, so im not complaining.

I don't get this misconception that CS majors need fancy laptops. At least for most classes, we don't program things that are all that big and complex that require something really powerful to run them. And when we do, we can go to labs.
