I'm not going to be able to go to orientation and I was wondering if anyone else is in the same boat. I'm in another state right now, so the cost of the flight, orientation, and hotels = $600+ which doesn't seem worth it for one day of orientation.

Does anyone have a clue as to what we're supposed to do if we can't go? I tried calling the 310-206-6685 number they gave but it doesn't go through. I'm kind of lost as to how we sign up for classes and how do we know which ones to take.

I was considering not going. However this is not because of the cost. It wuold be cheaper if you can find somebody to stay with. anyway you can try calling 310 825 3101 and ask them. that number is for like general questions about getting into ucla. they are open from 1-4PM PST. and um they may just transfer you over. i was able to call the number you have before. some of my friends at ucla urged me to go to orientation.

well zooie...what is your major? If you go to the UCLA website and then go to your major's department page, it will tell you what classes are required for completion of your major.

I emailed them about not attending and they told me to call 310-206-6685 and tell them that I won't be attending. They then set up the computer so that you can sign up for classes on your own sometime during the summer. Try calling around 10 am.

But I'm still confused D: I think I need to talk to a department counselor or something.

I called today to notify them I can't go to orientation and they made note of it (it's irreversible) and told me my enrollment time. Enrollment is done through ursa.

Important links they told me to write down:

I'm thinking that I'm not going to attend since all the dates conflict with my summer session class. Since I'll be going to school for the whole summer anyway, and I already know what classes my major needs, I don't see a point to spending so much money on a one day event.

hey wu_chun24,
when did you call 310-206-6685?
I called the same # 2 days ago and told them I'd like to declare non-attendance for orientation. But they just ask me to send an email to somebody in the econ department (as my major is bus econ) to request for the date for registrating classes on my own. They told me that everyone will have to register for classes at a different time. So I sent an email to the econ department. They replied me like... "You will need to contact the Orientation office to obtain an appointment for registration. It is too early to do so at this point. You can call them to see when you should call back."
I was so confused now... The orientation office asked me to contact the econ department and the econ department asked me to contact the orientation office...
so have you got to know your date and time for registration already? plz let me know...thz

this is getting so confusing...i also cant go to orientation and i'm planning to change my major (from mechanical to aerospace engineering) but i really dont know how this can be done without a counselor...

I called the number wu_chun posted, was given an enrollment date of August 4th, and told to make an appointment with my department counselor for help planning my courses. Very nice person answered the phone. Seemed easy enough.
