In-state tuition for UT-Dallas is just over 11,000 for the first year. If you are CAP’ed with a high SAT score many fine OOS flagships will give you enough merit aid to make it the same or less as your cap school where you will likely get no merit aid. Schools like Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, ASU, Arizona, etc. all offer great freshman year experiences that can be just as affordable as doing CAP if one has high enough test scores.

I didn’t consider it, but if you are interested in Arkansas, they will give many Texas residents in state tuition even for mediocre test scores.
The nice thing about South Carolina and Georgia is that even though some of the scholarships appear small, almost any comes with an OOS tuition waiver so that makes them a lot better.

Many of these scholarships have very early deadlines, so you can’t wait until you find out you are cap’ed, but they can be good insurance policies if your worried about missing out on a big-school freshman year.

The nice thing is that you can go to these schools for your freshman year while paying CAP prices, then transfer to UT as a normal transfer student. Plus, you get to have good football, basketball, greek life, the whole shebang that may be what attracts you to UT.
