Anyone pass WUSTL first round?

Brand congrats on getting in; I get my decision in the coming weeks.

Yes, my daughter is a freshman applicant.

CAn anyone please give me some advice? How would you compare WUSTL to Cornell academically? I am a political science, and WUSTL is ranked #1 (I don't just look at the ranking), but does Cornell CAS compares to WUSTL?

I think you're splitting hairs. Cornell and WashU are both excellent schools and you should visit each to see which fits you best. Neither is going to have some major advantage over the other, regardless of ranking in a specific field.

oh man i can't WAIT for my letter/forms to come! anyone get theirs yet? I have a lot of good friends at WashU, so im thinking i'll be rooming w/ one of them. :)

Does Cornell has a rolling admission? And is it too late to apply?

Cornell's filing period is February 15-March 15, so no, it's not too late. I do not know if it has rolling admission.

No rolling for Cornell. Deadline is March 15th. No preference to applicants who send in early.

Trust me, I've confirmed each. I'm sending my Cornell off on Wednesday.

My only apps are/were: WashU, UT Plan II/Liberal Arts and Cornell CALS.

I'm trippin' up to each school to check 'em out again soon.

Can someone post the acceptance rate for each school at Cornell? I am really interested in the department of City and Regional Planning even thought I'm a math and political science major.

Wrong thread, man. Wrong thread.

This may not be the right place but does anyone know where I can find hte requirements for Olin as a transfer? I have browsed through wustl's site but not with much luck...

Thanks..

And oh, congratulations guys! :D

I recall seeing that Olin requires Cal I and II from applicants. I don't think there is anything else.

Haha. And I, on the other hand, know absolutely no one at WashU, or any of the schools I'm applying to for that matter with the exception of UT-Austin. I like it that way though. New people are fun.

Dearsiryes - are you still applying to UT? I'm guessing I'll keep my app at UT and McGill just to see what happens but also apply to Wes and NYU asking for aid. If a school (even NYU) were to make me a nice offer, which is unlikely, I'd definitely consider it.

If you want to attend a top law school, you shouldn't.

Really? I've heard NYU sends a good deal of undergrads to NYU Law, which is fine by me.

But yes, the proportion of students that were accepted (and attended) YLS and HLS from WashU was MUCH higher than that of NYU students. It was about the same as that of Wesleyan. So do you think I should even apply to NYU? I'm really doubting they'll give me any money anyways.

No: huge school, no real campus, no real sense of community, worse undergraduate focus, need I go on? NYU is astounding for graduate studies, but I wouldn't touch it for my precious four years (or your two years, in which case they are even more precious).

I hate to admit it, but I think you're right. The idea of going to school in NYC is incredibly appealing and I loved Greenwich Village, but I think I'd be screwing myself if I turned down WashU or Wes for NYU.

I think I'll save it as a possible option for law school.

Which reminds me: have you decided where you're applying, besides GLC?

In my opinion, going to school in NYC is only worth it if you're not taking an academic sacrifice (assuming you value academics); the only school in NYC tha allows you to live there without the foregoing sacrifice is Columbia.

Yes, I have.

Heh, yeah. Not even gonna try that one. I'm very content right now anyways.

Care to reveal, or are you wanting to keep it to yourself for now?

Thank you. Do you think I will be fine if I have calc 2 as 'in progress' by the time I am applying to olin?

And would I be correct to assume olin to be harder to get into than, lets say, arts & letters?

Lastly, is there a separate registration for olin or do I just use the common app? Do I need to provide sat 2 and hs gpa?

Thanks

Um...I really can't say. You should contact WashU and see what they think, but there's not really anything you can do if the course is in progress and you want to apply for the Fall 2007 semester. Just apply and hope for the best.

If by arts and letters you are referring to Arts & Sciences (not trying to be a smartass; I'm really not sure if there is an arts & letters college), no, I don't think Olin is harder to gain admission into. In fact, I would argue that Olin is easier to get into as Olin is still somewhat new and not extremely well regarded. I think most students will be applying for admission to A&S and so it is probably a bit more competitive.

I think you just indicate which college you are interested in on the Pre-Application Data Sheet. You can actually rank the colleges within WashU in order by preference. For instance, I put A&S for my 1st choice and Olin as my 2nd choice, but you can also select a 3rd, 4th, and so on, which may mean you have more chances at being admitted, even if not to your first choice college.

As for the SAT II and GPA, SAT IIs aren't required but if you did well send them. HS transcripts are required.
