Anyone Physics Major?

I've been scanning through the threads on this site and I have yet to come across a physics major. Ive applied to UCSD and still waiting on the decision. I have a crappy 3.1 gpa but for the past year ive been taking 18 units a semester at CC and working 30+ hours a week.... Any physics major transfers to UC's??

im not a physics major (comp sci) but i feel your pain. i have a 3.1995 gpa, took 17 and 18 units last 2 semesters, work 32 hours a week pushing shopping carts (in the fall i had to work 40 hours) and i applied to ucr and ucm, but even if i get in im just gona go back to my ccc in the fall and take a few more classes so i can get into uci, ucsd, ucsb, ucsc, or ucd in the winter. good luck to you!

with that gpa you should look into tag agreements.

I'm a physics major. Yep.

3.1 may not look bad if you have high grades in math and physics.

I'm a physics major who's already at UCSD.

The program here is tough, and not too many people do it (we've got about 25 in my class). Just make sure you do the most rigorous calculus and physics classes they have to offer at your college. Other than that, try to get A's and hope for the best.

that is not true. ucla does not differentiate between a grade u get in math/physics compared to a grade you get in speech/psych. (if you are a physics major, or any non impacted major in letters and science)

you have a decent shot at all ucs even though your gpa isnt too high because physics is probably the least impacted major possible.

Not a physics major, but an engineering major so I've probably had to do the same pre-req's as you Savage. Finishing up 3rd semester physics now.

KingInc does that mean that since there arent that many physics majors it will be easier to get accepted into a UC

yea, "easier" then applying as a bio or bus econ major for forsure.

I'm not sure if that's true. Someone on another thread said that the University accepts you first, then the department you're applying to. So depending on whether the admissions board considers your major, maybe it will be easier to get in, maybe not.

King, for minimum requirements it is overall GPA (edit: transferable) and they do not distinguish.

Beyond that, they can consider any of the information available to them on the application to make an admission decision. This can be particularly important when an applicant passes the primary admission phase and their application is sent to the department to make the final decision.

For UCLA you are admitted by major. The major you choose DOES matter. If not, then why are the average gpas for majors like biz-econ so much hier than majors like east asian studies?

UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Admitted Transfer Students, Fall 2008

For berkeley, you are accepted by department.

exactly as jetforce said...

I am also a physics major student.
Got into UCI, UCSB with campus wide honor and into UCSD but waiting for CAL.

As physics is not an impacted major, you should be fine. one of my friend with around 3.2 GPA get accepted into ucsb for physics program [although physics was not his first choice]. It clearly indicates that it is easy to get in into most of the uc with physics major beside UCB and UCLA..
anyway good luck!!

I am just curious: what you doing in summer???

I have no idea what im doing in the summer hopefully move down to SD and get settled in before class starts. Do you have any ideas for summer
