Anyone planning on going here?

I'm seriously considering it. Just wanted to see what the rest of you are thinking.

do it. do it. DOOOOOOOOOOOO IT!

so you feel strongly about this? :D

Anyone, yes no?

Well, it mainly depends on how much they offer you. The U of M is a huge school, and isn't known for being particularly generous with scholarship offers (especially to North Dakotans like myself), so unless you're loaded, you should probably wait and see how much money they offer you. I'm guessing they'll give me one for 6500, and a national merit of 1000, with maybe 2000 in grant money, so i have to pick up about 8000. Private scholarships should take care of 1500-3000 of that, so I'm not getting a bad deal, but obviously it varies from person to person. I think most people are happy with their decision to go there- a school the size of UMN-TC has something for everyone.

Well they do have that deal where if you live in certain neighboring states you pay pretty close to in-state tuition. I'm from kansas and they sent me this thing that said if I stay at umn all 4 years I just have to pay instate or something like that. I bet they have that for ND people too. Anyway, I liked the campus alot because it had that city feel. The dorms were small but they work. I'm a little worried about the cold b/c right now it is 47 degrees here and there it's 34. I love snow though so that helps. Have you visited?

Yes, they have tuition reciprocity with all the neighboring states (Wisconsin residents actually pay even less!), but it still costs ~$17,500 total, an amount of cash I don't exactly carry around in my back pocket. I think that is a problem with college in general though- there are certainly colleges that are much more expensive. As for the weather, I can live anywhere after living in Fargo for 8 years. Also worth noting is that they have underground tunnels connecting a lot of the buildings, so you don't even have to walk outside if you don't want to. Additionally, Minneapolis is a city with tons of stuff to do, most of which can be done indoors. <insert transition="" here="">, they have great indoor sports facilities (they're huge) in which you may do whatever you please. There are tons of things to do on any given day; othat university is huge and in the middle of a metro area of (according to the census bureau) 3,083,637 residents, so you certainly won't be bored (unless you have agoraphobia), even in winter. Plus, they have The Onion in print for free!</insert>

That all sounds awesome to me. Everyone I've talked to who's been to Minneapolis says they love it so I'm thinking I just might end up there. Hard to say. I visited about a month ago and now my mom and I are trying to make an excuse to go again. The place just seems cool and we didn't even get to go to the city. What do you want to study?

political science (global politics concentration). how about you? also, if you do visit again, make sure to stop by the mall of america- it might be my favorite place in the twin cities.

architecture or at least something in design. Yeah I'm pretty sure we're going to visit again. Probably sometime after spring break and during the school week so I can get a feel of it with all the students walking around. I'll try to sqeeze in some mall of america time if i can haha and go see what's happening in the big city. Have you applied for housing yet? When i did i just sort of guessed from the short desciptions and the pictures. I toured territorial and centenial's dining center. They both seemed pretty good. Oh and do you think you'll go greek?

I applied for housing in February. I'm hoping to get a suite in middlebrook. I'm in the honors program, so that's the building I'll be living in for sure. I definitely won't go Greek- not really my lifestyle. And yeah, squeeze in some shopping time. The mall is uber-cool.

Yeah i don't think i'll do a sorority either, at least not this year. I'm just wondering are you a guy or a girl?

Guy. But I still like the mall.

Haha thats cool, i was just checking

Ok, so, they haven't offered me a scholarship. Nothing. Is that possible? The notification deadline has passed. I am so confused about what is going on. I have a 1580 SAT and a 3.96 GPA. Who the f*** is getting a scholarship if I'm not. I'm in a state of shcok rigtht now. This is going to end up costing me just as much as Yale or Harvard if I don't get scholarships. ***?

Hmm, that's really wierd. I guess you could call or something because there's no reason you shouldn't have gotten one. My mom said I got one but I don't really remember, but my SATs were def. not as good-1260; gpa was about the same. I don't know call them and then post if you get any info.

Yeah I'm in-state and I was hoping for the 6500 or 12000 scholarship but I haven't heard anything either. I never saw a deadline, but I remember submitting my FAFSA right before a deadline because it was needed even for merit.

Through rolling admissions, my daughter was accepted at the U in December. She just received a merit scholarship last week and we are still waiting to hear about hoped-for need-based aid.

As Minnesota residents, the U was her "safety" but my daugher is leaning more and more towards attending. She asked about sitting in on a class in her major and received a call from one of the full professors in that department, personally inviting her to visit. That's more attention than she's received from some of the LACs...!

johankian- I just found out about my scholarships today ($9,000/year), so I wouldn't give up. It looks like you'll hear in a little while. BTW, $2500 of that was for a scholarship for Political Science majors, so you can probably expect that one as well as the $6500 one.

the U rocks out! I'm not going but I was accepted to IT Honors (I'll be at the University of Chicago).

Even though I applied to other good privates, the U probobly would have been my choice if I hadnt gotten into chicago. Its a great campus and living in minneapolis is wonderful. Great school for research as well. Good luck to anyone planning on attending.
