I believed that everyone are preparing for their SATs

Can anyone give me an explaination? Thanks ~~~

In the first one, “defend” is present tense, therefore the verb that follows it should also be present tense, because it refers to an action at the same time. So it should be “justify” rather than “justified.”

In the second one, people are not “opposite to” other people, they are “unlike” them.

In the third one, the wrens are not particular “about” their nesting sites. This means that they are not too choosy, when they select a site. If they were not particular “in” their nesting sites, it would mean that once they had selected a site, they didn’t mind sharing it with chipmunks, or having spider webs strung across it.
