Anyone read Prep?

Anyone read this book about boarding school life? I just did and it was a lot different than I thought it would be. Kind of made me glad I didn't go to a HS boarding school.

Thoughts?

that book was the exact opposite of what i expected. i did think it was pretty funny though. fish or cheese. hahaha. i didn't expect it to be that sexual. i thought it was funny because when i bought it, the woman in front of me was buying it for her 10 year old daughter because she thought that it would convince her kid not to go to a private school. if anything, the book convinced the mom to never let her kid live in a dorm.

I want to read it, but I can't find it in any of my local libraries, and I don't want to buy it. Yeah, I'm kind of a cheapskate......but then again, I'm usually broke.

omg lol i read it last week.
yeah, i liked it. half the book was about the whole fish/cheese escapades- EW!

I was surprised, to say the least. Taken aback.

Euch, Cross's conquests.

"You're Fish"<--Saddest/Funniest line in the book

I read it and wrote a review of it for my school paper. I thought it was good..not exactly Salinger as I had heard, but good overall. Atypical.

I haven't read it... I think I'm going to though.

i read it a while ago...

cross ****es me off :P

Lee ****ed me off. I wanted to slap her basically the whole time (which actually happened at some point haha). lol

pathetic. and not even curably.

I thought she was almost pathetic to the point of unrealistic.

Seriously. I identified with her for maybe the first fifty pages.

And by "identified" I mean "tolerated"

Holden trumps Lee, no matter what the critics say.

I think most critics agree with you on that one lol

But, granted, Lee does present a modern and female view of adolescence. Too bad she's so far from normal she's nowhere near universal like Holden.

Eh, many said she was on par with him.

Sacrilege!

i read it early this year, it also makes me appreciate my public high school
plus cross is a total jerk too

I hated Lee. I almost stopped reading the book a couple of times, because I just couldn't stand her.

The writing was great, but Prep doesn't come close to Catcher.

A jaded view of boarding school from an unusually insecure teenage girl...not the best way to judge prep schools in general although it did make an amusing read.

i was entertained by the fact that cross got around that much and none of the girls seemed to care, except for Lee, but its not like she did anything about it.

i read it...i wouldn't recommend it. its a complete bore

lee is tolerable...sure she isnt glamorous or smart anything, but i found her rather realistic...whines no more than some girls i know, why does everyone dislike her so much? everyone seems to resent her for being shy and passive. i think prep was pretty interesting, but it didnt defer me from going to boarding school at all; tons of people have gone to boarding school and had the time of their lives. some ppl criticize the book for having no plot, but i didnt mind. after all, not many people have exciting plots in their high school life anyway. after talking to some people, i found it funny how many boarding school kids highly resented the book's negative protrayal of boarding school, while non-boarding school people liked it a lot. half of the kids at my school and up at the high school had to read it for school already, so i guess the teachers like it. i wonder if my opinion of the book will change after i go to boarding school.
